The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Title: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Director: David Fincher

Series: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Based on the Book: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Written By: Stieg Larsson

Starring: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Christopher Plummer

Rated: R

Released: 2011

Personal Rating: 5/5

Mystery Genre Rating: 5/5

Oscars: N/A

Basic Plot: Mikael Blomkvist searches for a missing woman and ends up involved in a much bigger mystery.

Opening Credits
This appears out of nowhere and appears like an acid trip. You might be asking: "But, jashykins, it's the opening credits. It doesn't come out of nowhere." You are wrong about that. The opening scene is very quiet and suddenly you're blasted with extremely loud music and weird images. From what I gathered by watching the movie I will attempt to decipher the trippy opening sequence: The images show that Lisbeth (the title character) is a hacker, that she is raped, and that she ends up having a sexual relationship with Daniel Craig's character.

The Rape Scene
If you don't like rape scenes (for any of the numerous reasons) then you will feel like you're dying while watching this scene. I had heard that this scene was disturbing (from people online) but I thought that they were exaggerating. It has happened in the past. Unfortunately that is NOT the case with this. Even the guy who played the rapist was disturbed (he ended up going into his hotel room and crying for a long time afterwards).

Too Many Endings
For all those that saw The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Imagine the "ending" to that movie times ten. You have now gotten an idea for the "ending" of this movie. Some of the endings were needed and one could've been shortened. revrezner said the final ending could've been cut but I think it should stay in case the other two sequels are released.

Final Thoughts
This was a movie I had been waiting for. I admit I haven't seen the original movies nor read the book trilogy. With that in mind: This is one great movie. It has good character development, lovely visuals, and intense action sequences. Plus, for you mystery buffs, it has a great mystery that inhabits every inch of the film. Though I wouldn't recommend this movie for the squeamish.

Here is the video I made as a Christmas present to my boyfriend.

Where is the YouTube Version of this Video? I have decided not to put them on this blog since sometimes YouTube makes it harder to upload a video.

The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins)

Title: The Hunger Games

Series: The Hunger Games Trilogy

Author: Suzanne Collins

Released: 2008

Rating: 5/5

Basic Plot: Katniss Everdeen takes her sister's (Prim) place in the Hunger Games and now has to fight for her life.

Big, Bad Government Theme
I admit I have a very low opinion of government. This hasn't been helped by how the US Government is acting now (especially SOPA and Protect IP which effect me). And the big, bad government is a big part of the book. The Capitol (the Government) created The Hunger Games as a big fuck you to the 12 Districts of Panem (the old USA). What's especially great about The Capitol is that you feel its evil even without it being in the scene.

The Bloody Scenario
This book is for Young Adults and yet it has something that belongs in an adult novel. That something is children (12-18 year olds) killing other children because the Capitol finds it amusing. I loved when I was a teen when Young Adult authors would treat me like an adult. If you are a teen, and feel the same way I did when I was young, you'll love this aspect of the book. If you're an adult, this still might disturb you just because children are killing children.

The Bleak Future
This book has one of my favorite scenarios: the bleak future. I don't like happy futures but I like to see how the future can go wrong. This book's depiction of the future is so down and it gets worse as things go on.

Final Thoughts
This book made me want to read the other two books in the trilogy. I can't tell you how painful it is to wait to finish the trilogy. One mystery I want to find out is who the mutated wolves are. For a young teen this might be gritty. For an adult, it won't be as bad for you.

Two Days (SOPA)

Correction: They're only voting on whether to pass the bill to the house floor and then later the senate. The house committee is only a small number in comparison to the rest of those in the house and senate. And from what I understand, a lot of them aren't fully aware of the SOPA do to being involved with other crap. - @m1919_tscc (Twitter Account)

I truly wish this time wasn't upon us. But SOPA will be voted on December 21, 2011. This, as I have stated before, will affect the enter internet community (yes, even you, non-American Citizen)! This is very sad when such a freedom of expression will be taken away (even though you hardcore porn fans are creepy).

Know what the saddest thing about this is? It's the fact that the people voting on this don't know what the fuck they're voting about. It's just that companies pay them money and they don't ask questions. This made the SOPA hearing very annoying to listen to. It could be a comedy if it wasn't real. The line 'The Internet is for Porn' was stated more than once.

Luckily there were voices of reason. Unfortunately they were very few and far between. So, those in the US of A, write (or call) your senator/representatives to tell them that you are against this bill!

Also, don't forget that Protect IP is a lesser form of SOPA, but could prove to be just as deadly.

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 8

"What you did, Rig Katashi, was not becoming of someone of your station in life." Hijunaki said. I bowed my head in shame. Especially because he had put a very harsh emphasis on the word Katashi. What I had done to Akumie had been found out. She hadn't been happy and the news had gotten to Hijunaki.

"Instead of showing her how great my palace is you showed her that I can only create slime." He continued. "If Akumie hadn't ordered me to keep you alive I would kill you now. I would think that she would be much madder considering the circumstances."

I was confused and frightened. If an angry goddess had let me live that only meant that she wanted time to think about how she would kill me. What confused me was that there could be a circumstance that would make being used worse than another circumstance. "What circumstances, Hijunaki?" I asked.

"The fact that her old lover has recently died." He hissed. "The fact that you are the first lover she has taken since his death."

I was taken aback. I didn't know whether it was because I felt insulted or that I felt ashamed. It felt like an insult because it made the deed too easy. A mourning widow is easier to comfort than a happy wife. It felt like I was ashamed because I had cut her deep and probably would never be forgiven. I couldn't decide which emotion or reasoning was stronger.

For the next hour Hijunaki used words to do what arrows could only hope to do. He was finally cut off when Akumie came in. She was beautiful, as always, but an anger could be sensed coming out of her. It consumed her and seemed to make her a different being.

Hijunaki bowed to her and I could only stand up straight. This wasn't because I was trying to anger her more, but it was because her gaze had frozen me in fear. As she walked closer to us I was afraid I was going to die. That Akumie hadn't needed that long to figure out how she wanted to kill me.

"Hijunaki, I thank you for your hospitality. Your kindness is not something I will ever forget." Then Akumie turned to me and I could see that her face showed no emotion, but I still felt anger coming from her. "But some of your creations do not have that same hospitality."

Hijunaki, still bowed, asked, "But the actions of my creations will not make you forget your favor of me?"

"Of course not." She replied and then left. Not by walking, but by turning into lightning and shooting off into the distance. With her absence gone, I felt fear. Now that she was gone I knew what would happen to me would be painful. And that would be putting it lightly.

Hijunaki turned his head to me and looked me straight in the eyes. Within the blink of an eye I was tied and floating above the pool I had bathed in earlier. The one that I had washed all of the wetness from Akumie off. But now it smelled extremely salty. I heard, and then felt, a lash on my back. Every time it came down I was pushed down into the water.

The lash had spikes like dragon's fangs and the salt felt like claws digging in deeper. It didn't help that I felt like I was going to drown. Each time I tried to yell I couldn't hear myself. After what must have been years I lost consciousness.

Red State (2011)

Title: Red State

Director: Kevin Smith

Starring: Michael Parks, Melissa Leo and John Goodman

Rated: R

Released: 2011

Rating: 5/5

Oscars: N/A

Basic Plot: Three teenagers go out to have sex with a woman and are caught by religious extremists.

Everyone is Not Likable
What I mean by that is that there is no good character. The three teenagers are all horny bastards and those are the ones we first meet. However, the characters are all interesting in their own unique ways. Each character shown is there to prove a point (or to add something to the plot). People complaining because there are no likable characters are not people I can understand. I don't need likable characters in my fiction, I need characters that are interesting to follow.

The Meaning of the Title
The meaning seems, at first, to mean that the state it's taking place in is a red state (aka one that favors Republicans). However, by the end of the film it's clear that the title means the whole United States of America. The fact that by the end of the film you realize the government isn't your friend makes you realize there's no one powerful to turn to for help.

The Westbero Baptist Church
There is hardly anyone that doesn't know about this cult. A few people don't know about it (one of them being someone I'm related to) but the majority of people will see the similarities. Hell, Kevin Smith didn't deny the fact that it's that cult. This really lends the movie horror that it wouldn't otherwise have. A good thing with horror is to have it be realistic. The fact that it could happen makes you afraid even past the ending credits. That's what the connection to the Wesbero Baptist Church adds to this movie: real terror.

Final Thoughts
This movie is a horror film to me. That being said, this is NOT for the weak of heart. The subject matter and graphic violence don't lend itself well for young or easily startled audiences. If you do feel you can tackle this beast: do so now! I do not see why this movie has received so much hate when it's brought me so much joy (in a painful good way). I have watched a special on a journalist going to live with members of the Westbero Baptist Church and it equaled the horror to this movie. The cult referred to in this film is really terrifying.

Best of 2011 Nominations

Best Movie I Have Seen This Year (will be renamed Best Movie)

Rules for Nomination:
1.) Must be a movie I have just seen this year.
2.) Doesn't have to have been released this year (this since I usually don't see most movies the year they are released).

Nominations

Paranoia (Video 2011, Writer's Cut)

Reason: This movie is indie but is just as good, if not better, than a big budget film. This movie kept me interested the whole way through. Plus, it managed to have a big build up for an out of this world twist! Only the Writer's Cut is nominated since I haven't seen the Director's Cut and can't judge it.

Horrible Bosses (2011)

Reason: I don't usually go for comedies but this amused me so much that it would be a shame not to have it at least be nominated. This movie combined an excellent plot, great acting, and hilarious moments.

A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas (2011)

Reason: The 3D in this movie is more than enough reason for this nomination. However, the wtfness of the whole movie, that never stops even once, is the second reason for this nomination.

Limitless (2011)

Reason: The premise of the film is interesting and it is handled well. The only downside is that the movie is VERY different from the preview.

Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

Reason: I fell in love with the music long before I saw the movie. The plot and new take on the opera genre was a love to watch. Plus, it had Anthony Stewart Head in it!

Black Swan (2010)

Reason: This movie is very much a psychological thriller. It makes you question what's happening even past the ending credits. Also it proves that a movie about a ballerina doesn't have to be boring, cliche, or a chick flick.

Best Book I Have Read This Year (will be renamed Best Book)

Rules for Nomination:
1.) Must be a book I only read for the first time this year.
2.) Can be one I started last year and finished this year.
3.) Only one book from a series can be chosen.

Nominations

The Dresden Files: Ghost Story (2011)

Author: Jim Butcher

Reason: Being a The Dresden Files fan I was more than excited to read the latest book. It turned out to be the best Dresden Files book I have read so far in the series. It managed to give a new take on the Dresden Files Universe. And while the ending was sort of a let down, it wasn't so big that it ruined the book for me.

Full Dark, No Stars (2010)

Author: Stephen King

Reason: This is sort of a cheat since this book is a collection of short stories and not a novel. However, the quality of the stories are all the same. Plus, they all have the same dark atmosphere that comes from Stephen King's writing.

Best Song I Have Heard This Year (will be renamed Best Song)

Rules For Nomination:
1.) Must be a song I have heard for the first time this year.
2.) Only one song per artist.

Nominations

If I Die Young

Artist: The Band Perry

Reason: While this song is a selfish look at death as a means to be heard, the voices and beat make it memorable for me. I had this song stuck in my head for weeks on end.

Believe

Artist: The Bravery

Reason: I first heard this song in a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Fan Music Video (FMV) and I fell in love with it. The song fit the music video and it also fit a roleplay character I am using.

Save Me

Artist: My Darkest Days

Reason: Yeah, they did more than Porn Star Dancing. I like the longing the singer has for the woman mentioned in this song. It also feels more real than some other songs.

Undisclosed Desires

Artist: Muse

Reason: It has an awesome beat as well as vocals. I did find this on another TSCC FMV. Unfortunately I can't hear this song without thinking of the video. The video being of a John Connor/Sarah Connor pairing.

When You're Gone

Music: Akira Yamaoka

Vocals: Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn

Reason: This is a very haunting tune and fits in well with the series. The chorus is really what grabs me, though. Also, I love Mcglynn's singing voice. Sad she won't be doing another Silent Hill game.

Best Season of a Show
Rules for Nomination:
1.) Has to be a season from this year.
2.) Can't have nominations for multiple seasons of a show.
3.) Doesn't have to be a whole season. Though it has to be a complete first or second half of a season.

The Walking Dead

Season: 2 A

Reason: This season just expanded where the last season left off. While it did have a much slower pace than the first season, it seemed to leave off with the promise of a more action oriented Season 2 B.

Fringe

Season: 4 A

Reason: I am nominatining this season more for love of the show than how I feel. While it is very interesting the fact is that it might end up being totally pointless.

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 7

As I walked toward the main sparing arena, I breathed in the air. It had a special smell to it now. Almost like Akumie was in my lungs. I looked around and spotted Jirou walking towards the main sparing arena too. Unlike me, he was neither an obake or able to hide among humans. He appeared to be a wolf that walked on its hind legs. Ruining this image was his head that had the same shape as a human's and had human teeth. Jirou's hands were also human, but had fur on the back of them.

"Jirou!" I yelled to him and he walked to me. "Haven't seen you in a long time."

"And you never greet me unless you want to brag about something." Jirou replied and crossed his arms. The only thing reassuring me he wasn't annoyed was the slight grin on his face.

"You're the only one who cares."

"No, I'm the only one who just lets you blabber on." He replied and smirked. "So what is it this time?"

"Oh, it's a big one." I said and paused. Did I really want to tell him? He would probably tell Akumie that I had just used her. And then she'd get angry. On the other hand, Jirou was the only one who would let me brag anymore. "I slept with Akumie."

Jirou stared at me. For a few minutes he didn't even speak. It seemed as though his expression was trying to cage his rage but was not succeeding. "Please say you did it out of love and not out of lust. Do you realize what would happen to us if you used a goddess?"

"What does it matter? She doesn't have to know."

"Rig Katashi, she's a goddess."

"And goddesses can be fooled."

"Do you really want to take that chance? What if someone tells her the truth?"

I walked up to Jirou and stood inches away from his face. "You wouldn't dare."

Jirou said nothing and walked away. I didn't know where he was going, but I guessed it was to talk to Akumie.

When he was out of sight I looked at the sky. Flying had always calmed me down before. Nearly as much as sex, really. As I concentrated, I became a miniature Western Dragon with black scales. I had heard about them from traveling obake and I thought today was a good day to try the form out.

I spread my wings out, ran, and took off. The feeling of flight in this form was fun but nothing special. I really preferred any Eastern Dragon form over this one. The one thing that was exceptional, though, was how the scales picked up the sunlight. Because of that I got lost in the joy of the form for hours. When I remembered who I was, the sun was about to set.

Shifting into the form of an eagle I started to look for Akumie. It had been awhile and I doubted she had stayed in her room. I finally found her at the edge of the pool I had been bathing in before. I landed on a rock and noticed that she was crying.

Had she found out?

Paranoia (Video 2011)

Title: Paranoia

Director: Ryan Mitchelle

Writer: Brad Jones

Starring: Brian Irving, Felicia Jiardina, and Brad Jones

Version: Writer's Cut

Rated: Not Rated

Released: 2011

Rating: 5/5

Oscars: N/A

Basic Plot: Mark Bishop's wife has left him and now he's caught up in finding who the serial killer is.

It Cured My ADD
Well, not totally. But all throughout the film I did not move (except for bathroom breaks, getting dinner ready, and during the last thirty minutes because it got so intense). What I look for in any movie is how well it keeps my attention. Sometimes that's the reason why I rate Oscar Worthy films low. When a movie, like Paranoia, can keep my attention it means something.

The Twist
Normally I wouldn't mind giving away the twist of a movie, but I really want you to see this movie. But suffice it to say that the twist makes a lot of sense. Besides that, it adds an even deeper level to the film. While some may think the ending comes out of nowhere, I say that there were tiny clues all throughout the film. Plus, it makes the tiny clues make a HECK of a lot of sense.

Black and White Works Wonders
I couldn't imagine this film in color and working as good. The coloring scheme heightened the mood. The mood of being unnerved. It may be just me, but black and white can make anything creepier.

Final Thoughts
There are two versions of this film: Director's Cut and Writer's Cut. One major difference between the two is that the Director's Cut does too much foreshadowing about the twist (as I have heard from many people who have seen that version). So I suggest you see the Writer's Cut first. The Director's Cut you have to pay for but the Writer's Cut can be viewed online for free.

Now I might be accused for being a fangirl, but I really do like this movie. Did I see it just because Brad Jones wrote and starred in it? Yes. But if it was a piece of crap I wouldn't be afraid to say so.

Don't Let SOPA Pass

I know what I say is going to be biased since I am a blogger. But I would like to say that anyone who uses the internet (yes, I'm looking at you weird person reading this blog post) will be impacted by this.

Do you have a fanfiction about your favorite series (hopefully something better than My Immortal or at least bearable as the first few chapters of TSCC Virtual Season)? You could go to jail for copyright infringement.

Do you have a Youtube video of you and your friends lipsynching? Or how about a YouTube video with a song by your favorite singer for an AMV of a show/movie you like? Same thing could happen.

How about your fanart on deviantart of a character you like? Or graphics using images from movies/tv/video games/ect. that you make? Same thing could happen.

Hell, anything you put online that contains copyrighted material will count. Yes, those who propose it say that it will only be used for good, moral purposes. But who are we kidding? Do you REALLY think that if we give the government this power it won't go crazy with it?

And before I end: sites that allow material (like those mentioned above) could be shut that. Goodbye YouTube, blip.tv, Facebook, and Twitter (among many others). Nice knowing you!

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 6

After carefully washing myself, I lay still in the pool. It was made out of rock and everyday it was filled with new water. Always fresh and never salt. During the daytime it was lovely and every night it was lit up with star light. Also, it was very close to Akumie's room. Meaning that after we had made love it had been a short walk here.

Of course I hadn't gone to the pool directly afterwards. Directly afterwards we had just enjoyed the comfort of each other. I wouldn't have done that if I had wanted to anger her. Getting on the bad side of a goddess never ended well.

I would have to go back to her soon. For some reason that thought frightened me. Was it because I was afraid of being caught or actually having feelings for her? Had to be the fear of being caught since I hadn't let any feelings for Akumie go deep into my mind. And if they hadn't gone deep into my mind then there was no chance that they would've reached my heart. A heart that I had protected from those kind of feelings since Sajoki's death. Or at least that's what I told myself.

Realizing that I couldn't wait any longer, I got out. I walked to Akumie's room and entered dripping wet. When I saw her smile at me from the bed, I remembered the wetness I had felt earlier. With that thought I smiled back at her.

"You're good." Akumie said. "I'm amazed that you dared to fight a goddess that way."

"I have no fear." I told her and dried myself with a rug on the floor. She laughed. "It's one of the only dry things in this room now."

"That's all your fault."

"And I'm not sorry for that at all."

After I dried off I went back in bed and lay down with Akumie for awhile. We talked to each other but the conversation wasn't important. I was pretending through most of it. Akumie liked it so it didn't matter anyways. I don't know if I liked her believing the lies or her smile more.

Finally I got up. "I'm boring you?" Akumie asked jokingly.

"No, I just need to talk to Jirou." I replied.

"Who is he?"

"A sparring buddy of mine. Haven't talked to him in a long time."

"You going to brag about me to him?" She smiled as she said that.

"How could I not tell a friend of mine about you? About our love?" I said and headed to Jirou. Of course I wasn't going to be talking about love to him. That part wasn't true.

What's The Point of the Golden Universe? (Fringe)

One of the problems people have with Season 4 of Fringe (on FX) is that the Golden Universe (alternate versions of the Blue and Red Universes) seems to have no point. I totally agree with this.

While Season 3 had a heavy emphasis on the Red Universe: You followed it with OUR Olivia. Adding to that, there was the goal of getting OUR Olivia back and the war with the Red Universe being expanded. PLUS, the buildup to the Red Universe was spread over 2 Seasons.

But the Golden Universe seems pointless for one main reason: It MIGHT end up having no point since everything MIGHT go back to normal. Or the Fringe version of normal, at least. We have spent so much time in the Golden Universe that if everything that happens in it turns out to be useless...well, let's just say there will be an angry mob.

I do trust the writers to make this all have a point. Maybe, as one fan suggested, the Golden Universe will end up being the CORRECT (that the word to use?) and Peter will have to deal with:

1.) This now being his reality.

2.) Lincoln's budding relationship with HIS Olivia.

However, it doesn't seem enough people trust the writers since Fringe's ratings have dropped. While part of this is due to being in the Death Slot (Friday Nights, only really heard it used for FX shows) another part is that people don't want to give their time to a pointless storyline.

Whatever happens, I hope that Fringe will continue. I love me some Walter Bishop comedy!

Note: If none of this made sense, you don't watch Fringe. Or haven't caught up with the series yet.

Lack of Zombies in The Walking Dead (Season 2)

A common complaint for Season 2 of the tv series The Walking Dead (on AMC) is that there isn't enough zombies. That the show is focusing too much on the human characters. They say there is too much drama and that it's becoming a soap opera.

I can understand that since Season 2 is much slower than Season 1 (at least so far) people don't like it as much. However, I think that the show is right to focus on the survivors since the show is about them. It just happens to have zombies thrown in.

Yes, it's a zombie survival show so there needs to be zombies. And guess what? They have had zombies in Season 2. Heck, they even managed to humanize them (this done especially well in Sophia). It's just that every episode in Season 2 doesn't focus heavily on them.

What I liked about Season 1 was that there was such a heavy emphasis on the human characters. So I like that with Season 2 (so far) that there is even more of that. While the first part of Season 2 was slow: it had a huge payoff. I don't think if there wasn't so much buildup to the mid-season finale it would've have been as good.

Before I end this, I must say: I do want the action to pick up. I don't mind a slow placing as long as there is a good/big payoff. That's why I love 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The Green: Illegal 5

I paced around Plague's living room and thought about everything that had happened. Looking at Plague I saw that his face was clear of all emotions. Well, all emotions but boredom.

Looking at me he said, "Matthias, just relax. Whatever the results will be won't be sped up by worrying."

"I just want to do something." I replied.

As Plague started to laugh there was a knocking at the door. He quickly got up to stop me from racing to the door. He gave me a small smile before going to the door. I stayed in the living room and only heard part of the conversation. After what seemed like forever, Plague came into the living room with a Police Officer.

The Officer was someone that I recognized from the Nuscon Police Station. This being the case, I wasn't surprised that he gave me an angry look. Feeling a little frightened, I quickly looked away and leaned against one of the walls.

"So you have the results?" Plague asked.

"Yes." The Officer said. "It seems Matthias was correct in what happened to Thomas Savan. Gralg is once again a problem."

"What kind of problem?" I asked.

"You saw what happened to Savan, so why don't you tell me? Imagine everyone going crazy like that. All the people fueled on their strongest rage. Sort of like zombies." He replied. "When Gralg was just in pill form it was easy to control. Control the pill supply and you'd control the danger. Now that there are bits of it growing out in the wild, it is much more dangerous."

"But wouldn't it be easy to stop it?"

"Savan found a random piece of it in the middle of nowhere. We don't know how long this has been going on or where to start looking."

"I am sure you have a plan." Plague said.

"Yes, but it isn't much." The Officer said and got up. "I'll leave you now. I have a lot of work to do."

After Plague escorted the Officer out, he turned to me and said, "I think we could both use a cup of coffee."

"Yeah." I replied and sat down at the table as Plague made coffee. The whole preparation was something I didn't consider important at all. Plus it involved waiting, which I wasn't in the mood for now.

"Just drink it." Plague said and put a cup of coffee in front of me. "You'll feel better."

"What do you know about Gralg?" I asked and pushed the cup away from me. Plague sighed and sat down beside me.

"When Gralg is ingested orally it makes people go into rage mode. Some people, though, it doesn't affect at all."

"What about it affecting a fetus?"

"Every woman that was tested was either on some type of birth control or a virgin." He paused. "We made sure that none of the virgins were pregnant."

"Why would you need to do that?"

"Because people have different ways of defining virginity. Anyways, Gralg was originally meant to treat people with mental disorders. A very wide range of them, too. However, the side effects made it ineffective as a form treatment and highly dangerous. Therefore it was made illegal and never heard about again."

"Then don't you want to find out what happened afterwards?" I asked. "Let's go now and maybe we'll be able to get information to help the Police."

"And get myself shot for your selfish reasons again? At least let's have a much better plan." Plague said and I nodded.

For a few hours we discussed plans and looked up information. It took around an hour to get ready to head out. This time it wasn't going to be quick, but well thought out in advance.

"That should do it." Plague said and smiled at me after we had finished loading the car.

Even though I was on the opposite side of the car, he walked over to me. He hugged me and he seemed to do it in a different way than usual. It was a hug but there was…more love in it. There was more love in it than usual and I liked that. Especially since it was coming from him. When he broke away from me he was smiling nervously. I smiled back at him and both our smiles became larger.

The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale (2011)

This was an excellent episode. Just heartbreaking. I am going to delve into spoilers or else I can't really talk about this episode.

For awhile now The Walking Dead has gotten 'slower' and focused more on the humans than the zombies. This angered people that wanted their zombie show to be focused on zombies. One person on The Walking Dead Facebook Page said that the title refers to the survivors and not the zombies.

If this is true, then it makes sense for the show to focus more on the human characters.

Throughout Season 2 (up to this point) finding Sophia has been of the most importance. Rick and gang are staying at Hershel's farm and won't leave until Sophia is found.

By this episode these things happened:

Lori (Rick's Wife) is Pregnant
When Shane finds out he tries to say he's better than Rick (since he thinks he's the father, as do a lot of the viewers). The rift between the two is shown. While Shane did have a moment last season of showing this it was more of a secret (though it's shown in this episode Dale did know about it).

Possible Daryl and Carol Relationship Implied
Okay, yeah, this is shipping. But the two have been growing closer all season as Daryl became more human. In the scene where a possible relationship is implied it is shown that Daryl still has his old feelings and that Carol cares for him (so much that she would abandon the search for Sophia to spare Daryl's life).

Shane and Dale Showdown
Dale is finally acting on his suspicions of Shane. He takes the group's guns in an attempt to hide them so that Shane can't do any harm. When Shane finds Dale things come out that show that Dale is correct in his suspicions. While Dale's warning to Andrea of Shane (since she is now in a relationship with him, secretly) may seem controlling. Dale is right to be worried.

The ENDING
This is by far the best, saddest, and most messed up part of this episode. Shane finally loses his shit and it leads to a slaughtering of all the Walkers living in the barn. While this scene is disturbing it doesn't hold up to when they find Sophia. This show takes a lot of risks and having a child becoming a zombie and then being killed takes a lot of balls.

I was pitying Shane for the last episode or two but now I'm back to hating him. His philosophies are good but he takes them in a very dark direction. While Shane can do more stuff in the face of danger, Rick is the more human of the group. And, when you're trying to keep humanity alive, being human is very important.

I liked that Sophia was found and that her death really meant something. It meant that the group could see from Hershel's point of view. Plus, with the Barn Walkers Massacre, Hershel could understand the groups point of view.

Now I can't wait for the second part of Season 2! February can't come soon enough!

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 5

As soon as the sun rose, I walked into Akumie's room. As soon as one of my feet went through the door way she was awake. Looking at me she gave a slight smile my way after she realized who had entered her room.

"Rig Katashi." Akumie said as I walked over to her bed. I tried to remain calm as I walked over to her. I tried to avoid the feeling in my heart that I felt when she looked at me. All I was after was sex. Nothing more and nothing less. If I were to give in to the feelings of love, I would be breaking the teachings of Katashi.

"Akumie." I replied as I showed her the food that I had prepared. Akumie seemed to enjoy the smell of the steamed rice, miso soup, and nori.

"I see that you didn't do anything special." She said, a little annoyed.

"Maybe I was thinking of something special after breakfast." I said and blushed a little. Though there was no embarrassment behind my blush.

This sent Akumie into a fit of laughter for a few minutes. "You do a horrible job at trying to pick up a goddess, Rig. But, I must admit, you do have a thing for theatrics when you aren't talking."

She got out of bed and I realized just how truly beautiful she was. The way all her features complimented the others made me think I should reconsider my plan.

"What's your story?" Akumie asked me. "Everyone has a story when they're after someone."

Sajoki suddenly came into my mind. The memory of our times together, of her betrayal, and what I had to do made me certain of Katashi's Teachings.

"I had a love named Sajoki. She was the most beautiful woman that I had ever seen. I risked everything for her and, in the end, she betrayed me." I bowed my head as I remembered Sajoki's blood on me.

"I won't betray you, Rig." Akumie said and put a hand on my shoulder.

"I know you won't." I replied and looked into her eyes.

In a swift motion Akumie kissed me and I lost all sense of where I was. All I was aware of was her body and the sound of her breakfast hitting the floor.

Michael Collins (1996)

Title: Michael Collins

Director: Neil Jordan

Starring: Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, and Julia Roberts

Rated: R

Released: 1996

Rating: 3/5

Oscars: Nominated for 2

Basic Plot: Michael Collins plays a crucial role in the establishment of the Irish Free State in the 1920s, but becomes vilified by those hoping to create a completely independent Irish republic.

Can't Connect to the Characters
I guess since this is based on a true story the audience is supposed to care for the characters already. I'm not too familiar with Irish History so I was having to learn to care for the characters through the movie. For a good majority of the film (around half of it) I couldn't feel for anyone. I kept wondering why I should care for any of the characters. By the end of the film I did understand and care a little for the characters. Not feeling for the characters in a film is a bad thing.

The Romance Subplot
The romance subplot is the most useless thing in this movie. It doesn't go anywhere. Well, it goes somewhere but you don't even care. This subplot is so useless it just takes up time. Time that could've been spent making a better movie.

Lots of Action
The one good thing about this movie is the action. The bad thing is it bored me after a little bit. Bloodshed for the freedom of Ireland shouldn't bore me. But it seems the director was all about getting in as much action as possible. This works great for an action movie but not one where you're trying to make people care for history.

Final Thoughts
I might be biased against this movie since it's not the kind I usually watch. However, I wrote my review while looking at how much the movie made me care. This movie, especially, is one that is trying to make you care about history. If it can't do that, it fails. Plain and simple.

S&N: Curse Revealed 4

NOTE: NAZILLA IS FEMALE!

Right now I was being reminded of my humanity being a thing of the past. I had been reminded of it ever since the change, but now it was clearer than ever. I don't know if it was the untouched food in front of me or Samara's eyes looking into me. Her eyes showed distrust as she kept eating her food.

The silence was something I would've liked to get rid of, but she had not replied to any of my attempts at conversation. I dearly hoped that she was thinking of why I should be with her. Be in her life, at least. But with every bite she ate it seemed that she would never agree to be with me anymore.

Finally I pushed around the food on my plate like a human child. Or, really, like any human at all. Looking at Samara's mouth I thought I saw a brief smile. I went back over the moment in my memory banks and I saw that there had been a smile on her face for less than a second.

After Samara finished her meal she looked at me. She stared at me like she was looking for any bit of the Nazilla she used to know.

"Naz," She finally said. "I think there is some of you left. Know what? I love that part and I can't see the rest of you getting destroyed. If I lost you again I don't know how I would recover. I don't think I could."

Samara paused for a few minutes before she walked over to me. I thought that she was going to slap me but then her lips pressed into mine. I loved the feeling but it somehow felt distant. It was as though I could tell what was happening but not feel like a human would. I couldn't feel the same joy that I used to feel when human.

But it was what I had wanted so I kissed back. When we both pulled back as one a smile was on her face. My face wasn't expressionless and had a smile for her.

"I love you." We both said as one. I admit, I did cheat to give it perfect timing. But it did make us both happy.

As we smiled as one, she took my hand and led me to her room.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Title: Captain America: The First Avenger

Series: Captain America

Director: Joe Johnston

Starring: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, and Samuel L. Jackson

Rated: PG-13

Released: 2011

Rating: 4/5

Oscars: None

Basic Plot: Steve Rogers is chosen to become a super soldier.

Steve Rogers' Transformation
The transformation of Steve Rogers is very good. How they make him skinny (using some CG) and then all muscular is superb. That's only one of the transformations. Another is the character and how others react around him. His angelic side isn't changed but how he reacts to people is amusing at times. This is because he's been skinny and beat up all his life that he steps into a whole new world in the course of this movie.

Red Skull
The make up for this character was AWESOME! Through the majority of the film you don't seem him referred to as Red Skull or the makeup. But when it's revealed it is lovely to behold! I've seen previous pictures of Red Skull from previous movies and they just can't compete to this movie's version.

Bucky's Death
I don't believe this character is dead. When Steve/Captain America rescues Bucky from capture, Bucky looks like he had been experimented on. Reading on imDB it seems I am correct since, in the comics, Bucky becomes Winter Soldier. Oh, and I am not sorry about "forgetting" to warn you about this spoiler.

Final Thoughts
I am not a Captain America fan and nor do I read a lot of the comics. So my review is biased because of those facts. However, this is a very well made movie. Even if you don't find it deep, it will be entertaining (as this kind of movie should be). At the end of the movie it gets you all ready for The Avengers movie.

The Green: Illegal 4

Forever and eternity passed as I waited in front of Plague's house. Night turned into early morning before I saw Plague riding a motorcycle. He was driving erratically and when he got closer I could see why. He was covered with blood and I hoped most of it wasn't his.

Racing to the front of the driveway I waited for him to stop. When he did I helped him off. No words were spoken but grunts were made by both of us. I sat Plague down at the table in the kitchen.

"I'm sorry." I said as I raced to get the First Aid Kit that was in the house. Guilt flooded me as I went over the whole house since my memory had left me. I could possibly become the reason Plague died. Finally, after eons had passed, I got the First Aid Kit.

"How are you doing?" I asked Plague as I started to use the kit.

For a moment he was silent and then asked, "Did you at least get some of the Gralg?"

"Yes. Yes I did." I said and finished using the kit on him. Luckily the majority of the blood wasn't his or came from cuts that weren't that deep.

"Pretty good for your first time." Plague said and managed a small smile as he looked over my work.

"I panicked. I got you hurt, Plague."

"Matthias, it's common to panic on your first time out."

I nodded sadly and decided not to argue anymore. "Did you get anything besides wounds?"

He nodded. "Yes. After I managed to knock the person out I got this." He said and went into his pocket to take something out.

"Who was that person? How did he know you? And what's a butt buddy?" I asked.

"He was a man I ran into from a previous case. Who he is isn't important. And, for your last question, that's…" Plague paused for a long time. It seemed that either the term butt buddy was a very delicate thing or he didn't want to admit something. And what if he didn't want to admit something that was obvious to everyone but me? "A butt buddy is a term for a male gay lover. When gay men have sex they sometimes put their penis into the other one's anus."

I nodded, though I was still confused. How could anyone find that enjoyable?

Plague opened his hand and I realized I had forgotten about what he had been doing before. He opened his hand and there was a piece of paper. He handed it to me and I read it.

"So people are trying to grow it now?" I asked Plague and he nodded.

"We should hand this paper, after copying it, to the police as well as the Gralg you have." He said.

"Are you sure they won't throw this stuff away as a hoax?"

"The police trust me. I believe there isn't a high likelihood that they will."

I nodded but was still nervous. I trusted Plague but I didn't trust others as much.

A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas (2011)

Title: A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas

Series: Harold and Kumar

Director: Todd Strauss-Schulson

Starring: Kal Penn, John Cho, and Neil Patrick Harris

Rated: R

Released: 2011

Rating: 5/5

Oscars: N/A

Basic Plot: Harold and Kumar are reunited and then are out for a night of wildness as they look for a Christmas Tree.

The 3D
The 3D to this movie just takes the cake. I am not a fan of 3D (unless it's in a theme park and extremely cheesy, like Terminator 2 3D) but the 3D in this movie is awesome. So many weird things are thrown at the screen and it's done throughout the entire movie. Plus, it is cheesy and the movie makes fun of 3D ("It's 3D. You know Daddy Daughter Day.") in numerous parts.

Disrespects Everything Under The Sun
What made this movie so fun for me is that I didn't mind everything getting disrespected. There is so much drug and sex in this that if you have any qualms about ANYTHING being in a film, you probably won't enjoy this. This is very much a stoner film. Everything is so messed up it doesn't make sense to a sober person. Mind you, this movie is a comedy so everything done is for laughs and not to gross you out.

Neil Patrick Harris
As NPH makes the hit show How I Met Your Mother, he makes this movie. Though he isn't in the movie a lot, he leaves the most impact. I could've made a review just about what he does in the movie. If you like NPH you should see this movie just for him. He is THAT good. NPH did "address" his gayness. However, if anyone thinks it's serious, they are dumb. It is done, as with the rest of this movie, for laughs. And laughs only.

Final Thoughts
This movie is good, but the 3D in it is really essential for enjoying the movie. A bunch of the jokes will fall flat when seen in 2D. I don't believe it is being shown anywhere in 2D. If it is, take the 3D version. I didn't see this movie after consuming anything so my review isn't biased because of that.

Pretty Little Liars Halloween Special (2011)

Show: Pretty Little Liars

Season: 2

Episode: The First Secret (aka The Halloween Special)

Developed By: I. Marlene King

Based on the Book Series by: Sara Shepard

Released: 2011

Rating: 2.5/5

Basic Plot: Allison takes the Pretty Little Liars to a Halloween Party.

The Special Opening
Since this is the Halloween Special the opening was changed. I liked that there was some change to the opening. It wasn't a big change, but it was something. It showed that the people making this series know a special has to be special.

Useless References
This special is a prequel to the series which could be good to explore things. However, most of the references in this episode are things we already knew about. Toby hints that Jenna is having sex with him, Aria sees her dad cheating on her mom (I swear that they recycled this clip from Season 1), and for some odd reason Darren hits on Hanna's mom (which I consider a little plot hole).

The Costumes
The costumes were decent. Since this is a tween show, the costumes couldn't get that slutty. However, Jenna's Lady Gaga costume was the most slutty of them all. The Pretty Little Liars wore decent costumes. Some were better than others. Emily's costume was my favorite among the Pretty Little Liars.

Final Thoughts
The good thing about this episode is that it helps hold PLL fans until part 2 of Season 2. Bad news is, it doesn't add anything to the PLL series and makes useless references to the rest of the series. In short, if you're a PLL fan you're forced to watch this episode. If not, you won't mind missing it at all. Also, if you're trying to keep up with the series I highly doubt you'll miss anything major by skipping this episode.

Splice (Part 4)

I end my Splice review with a rating of the movie.

If that version does not work, try this one:

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 4

"Thank you, Rig Katashi." Akumie said and I smiled as she had used my full name. Hardly anyone addressed me by my full name since I had taken it. The table was full of meats and exotic fruits that had been grown with the manure from Hijunaki's creations.

I breathed in the smell of the dinner that I had made and watched as Akumie ate a small piece of meat. I was briefly worried that she would not like it. How could I ever hope to win over a goddess by cooking? It wasn't even like my lovemaking could bring her closer to me. Which was a big hole in my plan.

Akumie's smile made relief rush through me as a sense of accomplishment overtook me. "You are a very good cook." She paused for a second. "At least for an obake."

"Thank you, your grace." I said and took her compliment as best I could. I was making progress at least.

She looked at me as I started to eat. "You can call me Akumie, Rig." She said. "You have earned it. For the past week you have attended me well. I am used to others bowing to my every whim, but you do it better than most."

"Thank you, Akumie." I said and felt the beauty of her name roll off of my tongue. No, it was the sensuality inherent in the name. It had everything to do with Akumie's body and nothing to do with her soul.

It took an hour to finish dinner with Akumie. The hour was full with pleasant conversation that made her like me more. When it was done I helped her out of her seat. As we left the room slaves came in to clean up.

"I'd like to walk around tonight." Akumie said and I smiled. Now I could finally go further in my plan to have sex with her.

I walked Akumie to the main gardens which looked lovely in the starlight. A small smile started to form on her face and I walked to a rose bush. Picking a red rose it started to turn from red to yellow to blue and back again. I smiled as Akumie's smile widened.

"This is for you." I said and handed the rose to her.

For a moment her face reflected that she didn't know what to do. I couldn't blame her as she was a goddess and this was an obvious invitation. After a few minutes of breathless silence she took the rose. I breathed in relief.

"I think it's time to go back, Rig." Akumie said and smiled. I nodded and took her back to her room. As she started going inside, she turned back t look at me.

Taking this rare chance, I started shifting quickly. I didn't do a complete shift of any animal but always put them as a combination. Near the end she was clapping. Shortly after she started clapping, I returned to my human male form.

"You are talented, Rig Katashi." Akumie said and went inside her room.

Salt (2010)

Title: Salt

Director: Phillip Noyce

Cut: Extended Unrated Cut

Starring: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, and Chiwetel Ejiofor

Rated: Unrated

Released: 2010

Rating: 1.5/5

Oscars: Nominated for 1

Basic Plot: Salt goes on the run after she is accused of being a Russian spy.

The Film is Confused
I am fine with films that force me to think about things. But Salt is a film that seems to not know what to do with itself. While the action sequences are great, it has confused plotlines. I think this is due to the fact that it wanted too many twists than it could really handle.

Who is Salt?
The question that was used to promote the movie just seems stupid. Even if you do watch the movie. You quickly find out the answer to that question. In other words, watching the whole movie to find out the question is just stupid.

The Action Sequences
The only good thing about the movie is the action sequences. They were the only enjoyable thing about this film. While the good and bad guys can get confused (not in a good way, trust me), if you just focus on the action it seems like a decent film. If the film hadn't tried so hard to do plot twists, I could've recommended this movie as a mindless action flick.

Final Thoughts
This film is a big piece of shit. I love bad movies and will search out bad movies. Heck, I've probably watched more bad movies than good (and don't regret it). But I like bad movies that are fun to watch. However, Salt tests my patience so I couldn't enjoy it. This is a movie you should stay the heck away from.

NOTE: NAZILLA IS A FEMALE!

After a few minutes of silence I bent down to pick up Samara's groceries. As I picked them up she just stood still and silent while looking at me. I didn't blame her. I sometimes had trouble looking at myself in the mirror, so I couldn't say anything bad against her reaction. Also, she had seen me die in her arms and now she was looking at a robot version of me.

Finally I finished picking up the groceries and handed them to her. Her reaction of taking the groceries from me was more robotic than I could ever be.

"Samara, it's good to see you." I said after I decided someone would have to break the silence.

Samara looked at me oddly and I thought that she wasn't going to speak. "You're not Nazilla. You're not my girlfriend." She walked away from me and went into the kitchen.

"If you'll let me, I'll explain." I said as I went after her.

As soon as Samara put down her groceries she held a gun to my face. "Stop pretending to be her!" She yelled. "You can't be her! She's dead!"

I thought a moment before saying, "What if I am Nazilla? Wouldn't you like to make sure?"

Samara lowered her gun. "I'll let you explain and then I'll kill you. I think I can do that and not die."

With that I sat at the kitchen table and waited as Samara made tea. She seemed like an angel as she moved around. Seeing Samara make tea made it seem as though the past three years had never happened. It made my suffering and change seem like nothing. As long as I could see her I'd be close enough to Heaven to satisfy me. When she sat down and gave me tea the anger of God shot through her eyes to me.

"So how can you be Nazilla?" Samara asked and sipped her tea to cover up the hope in her voice.

"After I died, Netty took my body and transferred my brain's knowledge to a chip." I explained.

"Why would they want to make a Machine who was once a human?" She asked.

"There are some things that a human can know that a Machine could never understand. Some things are impossible to know by just being told."

"If that's true, then don't you have programming in you besides what Netty got from your brain."

"Yes, there was. I managed to find a way to put it in the background after three years. It won't affect me anymore."

"Prove it." As she said that I had a crazy idea that I had wanted to do to her for three years. I slowly walked over and showed Samara I wasn't going to harm her. Then I gave her a kiss like I had given her before I was made into a Machine.

When I finished the kiss and backed away, I saw Samara's face change. She smiled but then quickly took on a stoic look.

She got up quickly and said, "You will sleep alone tonight. I trust you are Nazilla, but not that your programming won't make you try and kill me." She got up and went to her room.

Well, at least I could be in Samara's life again. That was the most I could hope for.

Unknown (2011)

Title: Unknown

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra

Based on the Novel: Out of My Head

Written By: Didier Van Cauwelaert

Starring: Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, and January Jones

Rated: PG-13

Released: 2011

Rating: 4/5

Oscars: N/A

Basic Plot: Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) wakes up with his life being stolen from him and no one believes what he says.

Who Harris Actually Is
The payoff for finding out who Harris is does make sense in the end. The character of Harris is shown to be somewhat simple, he's a biochemist, but it turns out there is a reason he was able to do the cool stuff before he found out. What makes it interesting to me is that it involves something to do with the mind.

Corn
What is it that Harris has to make sure doesn't get into the wrong hands? Corn that can grow in any weather. I felt it was such a let down as the rest of the movie was kick ass. It does make sense why that's a target but it wasn't as good as what could have been.

Liam Neeson's Performance
His performance in this movie was very good. He did a good job as Harris and also when his character changed. Liam is a very good action star as well as showing real emotions and this mixes well. The brief clips of him having sex with his wife in the shower seemed a little weird to put in this movie.

Final Thoughts
This is a very well done movie. It is great on the action and the plot is engaging. It keeps you guessing until the end. Unknown is a mystery but those who want a little romance (no, I'm not referring just to Harris' wife) and action (the action scenes are done very well). Liam Neeson fans should be pleased with this movie.

Director (Post-Credits): Joss Whedon

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, and Natalie Portman

Rated: PG-13

Released: 2011

Rating: 3.5/5

Basic Plot: Thor is sent to Earth to learn humility.

The Realms in this Movie
Each of the three realms shown in this movie are very distinct. Asgard has a combination of futuristic and ancient technologies and beliefs. Jötunheim is a vast ice wasteland where there seems to be hardly any technology. Earth is modern day (New Mexico, USA). I like that each realm is very different from the other.

Post-Credits
The scene that appears after the credits does a good job at giving me a reason to see The Avengers movie (not that this is my first time thinking about seeing it). It is very short but I would suggest waiting after the credits to see it.

The Romance
Any romance in a movie is usually done unrealistically and/or because the main lead HAS to have a romantic interest. Fortunately, the romance in this movie is only the former. Thor falling in love with Jane Foster seems to be needed so he'd learn humility (as this is given as a reason to why he becomes a better person). However, it just seems to happen way too quickly. The payoff for the romance is a good one, though.

Final Thoughts
This was a very fun movie. How does it compare to the comic book version of Thor? I haven't read any of the comics with him in them, so I don't know. The graphics for this movie are very well done and help build an atmosphere to each realm. I am sad I didn't see this one in theaters.

Sushi, Sake, and Tanuki: A New Leaf 3

The loud music played as I tried to grow comfortable to my clothes. But, after many hours, I doubted I would. I didn't mind formality if it meant my whores would like me better. Standing beside Hijunaki as Akumie's worshippers came towards us wasn't my idea of fun. I couldn't imagine Hijunaki was enjoying it since he was staying more still than normal.

Reassuring myself that I would be out of my clothing soon, I focused on the festival. Hijunaki had outdone himself by creating special creatures and having most of his creations play music. Luckily he had chosen only his creations that could sing well to do the vocals to the music.

After what seemed like hours, Akumie finally came forward and I knew I wouldn't find another creature like her. Her beauty filled me with emotions I couldn't remember feeling before. Fortunately a lot of the feelings could be passed off as physical urges.

"Akumie, I welcome you to Japan." Hijunaki said and bowed deeply and I followed suit. "And I have instructed my loyal servant Rig to show you the jewels of my palace."

Akumie looked at me and seemed to study me intensely. "Yes, this one does look like he can do his job." She said with a straight face and hardly any emotion.

"I have done other jobs very well in the past." I said and bowed to her and smiled. I tried to give an aura of charm for Akumie.

Akumie leaned close to my ear and I could smell what a good afterlife smelt like. "If you get to me like Asalie has you will be in pain very quickly." She said and went in front of me. With that, Hijunaki lead all the creatures there to a feast.

After we were all well fed, Akumie stood up and looked at me. "You can take me to my room now." She said.

I stood up. "Yes, your grace." I replied. When those words came out of my mouth I thought of other things I could take her to.

The walk to her room was more quiet than I would've wanted it to be. The reason for the long silence was probably that she didn't trust me. But as we got closer to her room I could see her becoming calmer.

I bowed to her when we came to the entrance of her room. "I am in the room next door if you need anything." I told her.

Akumie nodded and I saw a slight smile come onto her face. "I will hold you to that." She said and went inside.

The Book of Eli (2010)

Title: The Book of Eli

Directors: Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes

Starring: Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, and Ray Stevenson

Rated: R

Released: 2010

Rating: 3.5/5

Oscars: 0

Basic Plot: Eli wanders around with a book in an apocalyptic world.

Visuals
The visuals are very good to show the story in the movie. The coloring is dull and the slo-mo is used to good effect. The way characters dress suits their positions in the world and also to an post-apocalyptic world in general. The visuals are, in short, great at showing a post-apocalyptic world.

The Book Being the Bible
I do not believe in any form of Christianity and so the book being the bible doesn't really mean that much to me. But, in the world of this movie, God is real and the Bible is truth and not fiction. However, the message of the Bible being important didn't make me even think about turning to Christianity. Though those who are Christians might get more out of The Book of Eli's message.

Cannibals
Cannibals are a big threat in the world of The Book of Eli. They are so much a threat that there is a test given to everyone. The test is that if your hands shake you're a cannibal since eating too much human flesh has the side effect of having your hands shake. This is the reason everyone checks Eli's hands.

Final Thoughts
This is a great movie to watch if you like post-apocalyptic worlds. The overriding Christian theme isn't great enough to make the movie unwatchable. This is, in part, due to the fact that the preservation of the Bible is more to do with the preservation of literature. But if you want a movie full of good action then check this one out.

The Green: Illegal 3

I ate the pancakes that Plague had prepared that morning for breakfast. The thoughts about Gralg kept on going through my mind and I found that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was sad that I had lost the Gralg ad to the police. The fact that I had been carrying an ad for the illegal substance probably hadn't earned me any points from them.

I looked at Plague as he ate and wanted to tell him something. As he ate it, it didn't appear like he thought that much about what had happened last night. Of course, he was probably used to such instances. However, I wasn't.

Plague looked up at me and sighed. "Matthias, please tell me you aren't thinking about Gralg."

"Plague, think about it." I said. "Isn't it strange that the substance Thomas ate was green algae? And the fact that Gralg is green and algae put together? The fact that Gralg has side effects so bad that it's been made illegal and what Thomas ate made him go mad?"

"You're just over thinking things. People have complained about me thinking about things too much, but you're going way further than me." Plague took a bite out of one of his pancakes. "I think I know the real reason you want to go looking for Gralg and solve a mystery that isn't really there."

"Why?" I asked.

"You've been inside this house for a long time now. I don't think you were born to stay in one place. A true wanderer." Plague shook his head. "I guess this would relieve some stress and make you see reason. I'll regret this later, but we'll find some Gralg and you'll see that your worries aren't real."

Hours passed before Plague and I spoke again. Not because he thought I was crazy, but because we were both researching in two different directions. When Plague came back he said, "Get in the car. I found a place that might have some Gralg."

I looked outside and noticed that night had come.

I was excited as I got into the car and felt like I was finally on my way to doing something. The ride there was quiet as Plague kept close attention to the road. I had never seen him so concentrated before, but I hadn't known him long, either.

The house we got to was a trailer and in the middle of nowhere. Well, there were houses near, but far enough that a slight disturbance wouldn't be noticed for awhile. Plague and I got out of the car and suddenly there was a shot fired at us.

"Noir, get your slimy ass out of here!" A voice said and another shot was fired. "That goes for your butt buddy too!"

I managed to not get shot, though the bullet had scared my ear as it went by. Looking at Plague I saw him pointing to the trailer. If we left now then we could live without the chance of dying. However, then I probably wouldn't have another chance to get Gralg again. Would I risk the life of my only friend and myself just to get my obsession?

I nodded to Plague and went deep in the shadows as Plague drew the fire of the owner. Each second that I got closer to the trailer I felt horrible for what I was doing to Plague. However, I couldn't go back now.

Plague managed to get the owner away from the trailer and allowed me in. I felt scared as I entered the trailer and raced to find the Gralg. Hours seemed to pass before I found the Gralg. It was labeled in pill bottles under towels in the bathroom.

I took all the pill bottles and raced out of the trailer. In my fear I could only focus on running all the way back to Plague's house. I felt a bullet go through my hair at one point but I don't know if that really even happened.

I fell down on Plague's doorstep and passed out.

Splice (Part 1)

I start my review of Splice with the basics of the movie. I also complain about how the movie was marketed as a horror film.

S&N: Curse Revealed 2

I started to feel what I would've called nervous, when I was a human, as I got closer to Samara's new house. I couldn't wait to see her and feel human once more. But that would all be meaningless if she destroyed me because she thought I might be some kind of trick from The Net.

I parked in her driveway and looked at her house. It looked more expensive than our old apartment and might mean that she had moved up in rank. Being very careful, as Samara is an agent of Karma, I walked up to the front door and rung the doorbell.

I looked at the wall and did see that it was made out of materials that would dampen the sounds a Machine would hear.

After a minute I figured out that Samara was not home. I didn't want to stand outside where someone might see me that wasn't supposed to. If one member of The Net saw me there would be trouble as I would either be destroyed or reprogrammed.

I walked over to one of the windows and decided to get in that way. I figured that the door would be more trouble than the window. That's how Samara usually did things. After a few careful minutes I managed to open the window and got in a half second before security caught me. I looked around quickly to make sure that there weren't going to be any surprises for me.

Turning I saw a hidden camera that must've not raised anything since my skin was that of my old human body. Lucky that Samara didn't put much money on her camera or the fact that she couldn't stand killing anything that looked like me. But that last explanation was either too human or just plain illogical.

When I had checked out Samara's entire house for traps, I started looking at it in another way. I started to look for any pictures of her. I didn't expect much since those in Karma had a thing with secrecy. Or at least the better members did. And Samara was a very good member of Karma.

After going through all the pictures in the house I was calm with the knowledge that Samara hadn't taken another lover since my human body had died. At least I had a chance to be with her as I once was. But it would be difficult even if she did accept me as I didn't know how long I could cling onto my humanity. Though my thoughts of being with Samara made me almost forget my Machine side.

I found a place by the door and stood there. I didn't move at all and I didn't feel any reason to move. An hour later I heard a car pulling up in the driveway. Would it be Samara Crichton or someone who would kill me without thought? I waited and took my gun out just in case.

The door opened, there was a gasp, and Samara dropped her groceries. I tried to read a clear emotion on her face but couldn't. There was a mix of fear and joy along with a million other emotions. I remained silent.
