Yet Another Chosen One Plot
Know what movies keep throwing at us like it's going out of style? Chosen one plots. It's not enough for a main character to be awesome, they also have to be the only one that can save the world. Tris, in the books, was not a chosen one. Yeah, she was important. But not 'chosen one' status. So this plot is not needed as the book worked fine without it.

Complex Character Turned into One Dimensional Character
The book version of Jeanine is far from her movie counterpart. Yes, she still does attack Abnegation but for completely different reasons. In the books she already knows what the message is and it's because of it she attacks Abnegation. So while she still does horrible things, it's because of a very human fear of change.

Simulations were Good
I think the whole box and Chosen one plots were chosen because filmmakers must have decided that seeing Tris in simulations was a highlight of the last film. While I adored the simulation scenes, the setup for them was weak. I fear that in the next movie there will be simulations scenes that have just as bad of a setup.

Final Thoughts
I knew this movie wasn't going to be a winner when I walked in. I was hoping to be swayed to like it, but that never happened. It was not a good adaptation and the cliches that were used were just...not needed. They didn't have to make a strict adaptation, but they could've done a lot better than this. Hopefully Allegiant Parts 1 and 2 are better done. I don't like Allegiant that much so I hope they improve upon the weaker aspects of it.
