The Boys Season 3 (Mini-Review)

The Boys Season 3 takes place one year after Season 2. Everything is going great for everyone. Hughie Campbell is in a happy relationship with Annie January. He even has a comfortable office job working in the FBSA with Victoria Neuman. Billy Butcher isn't using The Boys to murder Supes but instead to arrest them. Even more surprising he is taking orders from Hughie. Butcher is also spending time with his son Ryan. But then things take a turn for the worse when Butcher starts to look for the weapon that killed Soldier Boy. The Boys Season 3 was released on Amazon Prime in 2022.

This season started off with a bang. There is a scene in the premiere that I will just call the Urethra Scene. Even if I wasn't trying to be as non-spoiler as possible, there is no real way to explain how shocking the scene is. I yelled and then paused the episode so I could continue yelling. Right off the bat The Boys Season 3 reassures viewers that the show will still go to all the wild places it has in seasons past.

There is a lot of father issues. There's Billy who is still reeling from Becca's death as well as his childhood trauma. He is also still trying to form a relationship with Ryan. There's Homelander who struggles with the fact that he doesn't have a father. Even Soldier Boy is eventually revealed to have had a terrible father that pushed him to become a terrible person. This paired with Eric Kripke's other show Supernatural makes me wonder if he has father issues of his own.

Herogasm was finally covered on the show. As someone who hasn't read the comics I learned very quickly that everyone was extremely excited about that. In the comics Herogasm is an annual event held by the Supes. To the rest of the world they pretend to be leaving Earth to fight a great threat out in space. In reality, though, they go to a secret island to hold an all Supes orgy. Since anything goes during Herogasm, any Supes that die during it are said to have died during the battle against the great evil. The show turns the scope down to an orgy held at a house. Everyone converges on the house except for two main characters and a lot goes down in the episode.

I am really scared for the fate of Ryan in the next season. In the comics Becca is raped by Homelander but doesn't tell Billy and so one night she dies while giving birth. Billy is freaked and kills the newborn. So the character of Ryan isn't in the show but the character's fate could be tied to the fate of the newborn. The show already had Ryan accidentally kill Becca thus mirroring her dying in childbirth. So what's to say that Billy won't kill Ryan either by accident or on purpose? By the end of the Season Ryan and Billy are on opposite sides which is a cause for concern.

I would highly recommend The Boys Season 3 to fans of the show. I would also highly recommend The Boys Season 3 to those looking for a satirical look at the superhero genre. I would also highly recommend The Boys Season 3 to those looking for a good science fiction show.
