A Love Letter to 2001
Okay, so 2001: A Space Odyssey (and its sequel 2010) isn't the only film to be referenced in this film. But this film does seem to be 2001 version 2.0. Like 2001, Interstellar focuses more on the exploration than the action. It is a truly beautiful movie to behold and lets you feel like you're actually traveling through space. One of the references to 2001 this movie makes is the location of the wormhole. In the novel 2001 by Arthur C. Clarke (that the Kubrick movie is based on) the monolith is by Saturn and not Jupiter.

I Need to See This in IMAX
This is a very good looking film. Especially the looks of the alien planets. I would love to see this movie in the highest quality possible. There's a good story about love and family, but another great part of this film is how good it looks.

The Theme
The theme of this movie is love and family. It is about what people will do for the ones they care about and what will happen to people once they lose their sense of empathy. The speech by Anne Hathaway is really the only time in the movie where the theme is too in your face and a little annoying. Besides that, the theme is woven so well into the plot that you buy what the movie is selling.

Final Thoughts
I'm sorry about not really mentioning what happens in the movie, but this is one of those movies that it's best walking into without knowing what's going to happen. There is a big twist at the end of the movie that I guessed but didn't know how exactly it was going to happen. If you loved 2001: A Space Odyssey and/or want to see another movie that focuses on space exploration: I would highly suggest this movie.
