Twists and Turns
This show has a couple good twists and turns which it uses to good effect. Is the Asian man evil? How much does he know? Why is he doing what he does? Who is Odin? Is Molly right for thinking her alien baby is good? There comes points in the show where you think you have answers and it turns out that you don't. I like it when a show keeps me on my toes.
Halle Berry
She puts on a good performance as Molly. As Molly she is smart, brave, and caring. She loves Ethan as her real son even though he's a humanic (aka a type of robot in the Extant universe). She loves her alien baby even though it's not human. She goes to great lengths to figure out the truth, even when the truth is hard to take. And in the finale...basically she risks her life to make sure humanity survives.
Reminded Me of Dead Space at Points
In Dead Space there is a mysterious thing called the Marker. It turns people into necromorphs but first it makes people see their loved ones that have died. The Marker then is able to make people do harm to themselves or others. This is what the aliens and Molly's baby seem to do a lot of the time. They control people by showing images of their loved ones that are dead the majority of the time. Unlike Dead Space's Marker, they can create fantasy lands for humans to think they have gone to.
Final Thoughts
I had to play a little catch up with this series at first and I'm glad I did. I love science fiction and this more than delivered. Besides aliens that we don't know much about, there is a robot sub-plot. Maybe if there's a next season we can find out more about Odin. I also hope there's a Skynet-like sub-plot so humanity will be stuck between aliens and something of their own creation.
