Haunted Wolf (Mini-Review)

This review was written for an ARC of the book.

Haunted Wolf is the first book in the Cedar Creek Shifters series by Nikki Landis. The book follows both Cole Baxter's tribulations in rejoining his pack and Briar Lovell dealing with her feelings for Cole.

The fact that the book is told from two points of view helps the story. You're able to get inside the head of Briar and her intense feelings towards Cole. You're also able to see from Cole's point of view and how he slowly realizes how much he feels for Briar.

Cole blames himself for the deaths of his brother Seth and former intended mate Renleigh Lovell. This does provide a good excuse for his intense depressed mood and why he left the clan. However, once it's revealed how the two people died it makes Cole seem like someone who finds joy in wallowing in grief.

I do like a little taboo in my romances. Within reason at least. So Cole crushing on Briar, the sister of his deceased intended mate, excited me for that reason. So when the author justified the growing feelings between Cole and Briar later in the book, my happiness was dampened just a little.

I would recommend this book to those who like shifter stories and just the right amount of cheese.
