Wolf's Bane (Mini-Review)

Wolf's Bane is the first book in Aimee Easterling's Moon Marked series. The book follows Mai as she does her best to protect her sister Kira. Their mother died which left Mai with much more responsibility than she should have to deal with.

This book depends heavily on the reader buying into the relationship between Mai and Kira. If you don't like Kira, you won't like this book. Myself, I found her to be the cause of most of the problems Mai has to deal with. By the end of the book I hated her for all the stress she put Mai through.

The mother speaks cryptic riddles to Mai. The riddles seem like they're meant to sound cool without meaning anything. Though as Mai is Japanese, it could be they're common enough to that country.

I did enjoy the world building around kitsunes. I liked how great their powers could be while having something to make sure the powers never become godlike. Werewolves are also done well. Basically everything was engaging in this book except for Kira.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy and has a good relationship with their siblings.
