Jurassic World: Dominion (Mini-Review)

Jurassic World: Dominion is the newest installment in the Jurassic World series. In this installment dinosaurs are now a new part of every day life for people. As such people are having to learn how to live with them. In this new era Biosyn emerges. In its quest for power, it seeks to control the world's food source. To accomplish this task it creates larger than life locusts to destroy crops. But it runs into problems when its locusts won't just die. Hence they are seeking to find Maisie Lockwood. Doctor Ellie Sattler gets wind of the genetically enhanced locusts and seeks to expose Biosyn's crimes. Jurassic World: Dominion was released in 2022. It was directed by Colin Trevorrow. It stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.

Back in the time of dinosaurs insects were really big. If time travel ever becomes a thing and you hate bugs, you will not want to visit dinosaurs. The insects were so big because the air had a different mixture than it does today. So when giant locusts appeared in the film I knew that they had been genetically modified since no changes in the air were mentioned beforehand. At least not enough to justify insects growing to such huge proportions.

Since the first Jurassic Park movie, scientists have figured out that dinosaurs had feathers. So it was nice to have a few dinosaurs with feathers. Though one feathered dinosaur looked a little goofy, its threatening presence made me overlook that flaw. The movie's explanation for this is that the DNA of feathered dinosaurs haven't been tampered with.

The movie seemed to promise that the main conflict would be humans trying to survive with dinosaurs. But that conflict was greatly underutilized in the movie. The only exception is near the beginning there are clips shown of people not really meshing that well with dinosaurs. Then when traveling to one location there is underground stuff dealing with dinosaurs. Such as forcing different dinosaurs to fight with each other for the entertainment of humans.

There are moments in this film that are clearly meant to be fanservice. But it's not a bad thing. This movie is all about having a good time and so the fanservice moments really work. Plus scenes that mirror scenes in past movies of the series don't feel too out of place. Such as one moment near the end of the film where Doctor Alan Grant and Owen Grady both comment not to movie.

Dichen Lachman is always a joy to watch and so I was excited to see her in this movie. She plays Soyona Santos who is a dinosaur smuggler. As always her character is evil and that is why I love her. All the roles I've seen her in she is never a nice person. Yet she's almost impossible to hate in any of her roles.

I would highly recommend Jurassic World: Dominion to fans of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World series. I would also highly recommend Jurassic World: Dominion to science fiction fans. Finally, I would highly recommend Jurassic World: Dominion to dinosaur fanatics.
