JASH

After an intense session of making love, I picked Alex up in my arms. It was a short walk to our bed where I put him. I joined him and he put his head on my chest. We had ****** and now it was time to just enjoy each other’s presence.

“My Thane,” Jordis the Sword-Maiden said after announcing herself with a knock. “Do you remember the festival tonight?”

“The Burning of King Olaf?” I asked.

“The same.”

“We’ll get ready. Thank you for making sure we weren’t about to embarrass ourselves.”

Jordis bowed and left us. While Alex and myself were about to enjoy ourselves in the weekly festival, she would be cleaning up the mess we had made while making love.

Alex got off the bed and started to get dressed. We had time to spare but he probably didn’t want us to be late because I demanded more ******* from him. He would have disregarded his better opinion if he had stayed in bed.

As only my eyes could caress his body, I watched every move he made. I followed the rising of his chest and the slightest movement of his muscles. His body was not one of a young man but it was no less tempting to me.

“How does Solitude compare to your New York City, my love?” I asked.

“It is the one place in Skyrim that is like Earth.” Alex admitted.

“Even more than Blackreach?”

“Only slightly.”

I stretched before I got out of bed. Before we left I would have Jordis make sure the scent of lovemaking wasn’t thick on us. It wouldn’t do if the Dragonborn made clear by smell alone how he continually claimed his husband.

After a brief search in the wardrobe I found an outfit that looked similar to the late Emperor’s. This had to be one of Endarie’s finest achievements. I, of course, had the late Emperor’s robes but wearing them to such an event seemed disrespectful to me.

“High Queen Elisif has made a decision with dire consequences.” I said once I was fully dressed. “If she even slightly wavers then the Thalmor will have another victory.”

I put on the Ring of Hircine and looked through my collection of crowns to distract myself from my thoughts. I shouldn’t have brought up my worries now but it wasn’t ours to hide such things from Alex.

“Ulfric was wrong to split Skyrim in two.” I said and put on a random crown. “But he was right in his belief that Skyrim should be independent. And as long as the Thalmor threat persists, Skyrim needs to ally itself with the Empire. If it doesn’t then Tamriel will grow too weak to resist the extremists.”

“Do you really think the Thalmor will have enough resources to make their retaliation mean anything?” Alex asked.

“It is not ours to turn our backs on such an enemy. I have no doubt they could manage a way to damage the heart of this province.”

Alex picked out a scabbard and sword. After making sure his sword was firmly on his hips, he handed me a pair. Since there was no battle to fight, it didn’t matter the weapons we chose. Each blade was enchanted and sharp so that if bloodshed was called for, we could answer in kind.

“What about everything you’ve done, Jash?” Alex asked. “You’ve taken out numerous known Thalmor spies. They no longer have that network to rely on. You’ve also founded the Reforged which has become stronger through the years.”

The Reforged had become a force of nature that most didn’t know where it had come from. They knew that my secret organization killed Thalmor and disrupted the elves’ activities. They also knew that Stormcloaks and Imperials freed from captivity were the majority of members. The name came from the fact that I had destroyed the Blades and put the Reforged in its place.

If Delphine and Esbern had obeyed their own doctrine that told them to follow the Dragonborn, they could have been allowed to live. Until I had decided to form the Reforged, I had allowed them to live as they never left Sky Haven Temple. But once the idea of forming a group to combat the Thalmor in a way I couldn’t do publicly came to me, their temple had become too tempting of a base.

How could I trust Delphine and Esbern not to undermine my authority? They had denied my orders before and even demanded me to kill Paarthurnax! So I had made sure they hadn’t experienced any pain when they died and buried them in the Saxhleel way.

“The Reforged excel at guerrilla warfare.” I partially agreed. “But they haven’t yet been tested in another form of combat. I don’t know if they could protect Elisif if the Thalmor assaulted the city.”

“And you don’t care about my safety.” Alex teased.

I couldn’t give him a smile or laugh. He would win this game of ours and I couldn’t let that happen. If he sensed me caving in too quickly, it wouldn’t be fun for him. So instead of laughter I let out a sound that would be interpreted as a groan except for the subtle ways two of my fingers moved.

“When you die then you’ll be at the Mountain.” I said and put my hands gently on his waist. “And once the Thalmor are extinguished from Mundus, I’ll join you for an eternity of bliss. Elisif has no such protection.”

“Then why save me instead of killing Maven?” Alex asked as he leaned his head up, lips slightly parting as he did so.

“Why should I deny myself such compulsions?” I replied and let my kiss say everything there were no words for.
