Buried (Mini-Review)

Buried was released in 2010 and starred Ryan Reynolds. The movie is about Paul Conroy, a civilian truck driver in Iraq, waking up in a coffin. Throughout the movie he tries desperately to get help. I would not recommend this movie if you're in the least bit claustrophobic or have a fear of being buried alive. This movie might be a little too much if that is the case.

Reynolds does an excellent job in making you believe that he is actually buried alive and you're not watching a movie. His acting is so good that people on set thought he was actually panicking. This is important for a story that focuses on one character and whose majority of the action only happens on one set.

At one point he finally gets in contact with the company he works for. Instead of caring about him, they only care about covering themselves legally. So they fire him with the excuse he had been having intimate relations with a fellow employee. Whether or not that is true doesn't matter, at least to me. What does matter is that it cements this feeling of Paul being alone with no one caring about him. Something that is a big part of the movie.

I do think the ending suits the movie and everything that had happened before. It keeps you on the edge of your seat even as the credits roll. There is a minor post-credits scene.
