It's odd that the author dedicated this book to her mother. Why? There are a lot of sex scenes in this book. Lana falls instantly in love with Oz and their relationship very quickly turns sexual. Maybe Kathy and her mother have a different relationship than most but I highly doubt it. Especially as she tells her mother to skip the sex scenes. How can her mother do that when there is so many sexually charged scenes?
One big problem I have with this book is the fact that a lot of important dialogue moments are summarized instead of shown. It annoys me whenever dialogue is traded for summaries of what happened. But I've learned to accept that some authors have a different writing style than me. However, this book pushes that problem to its limits and then beyond. Scenes where Oz and Lana get to know each other better are choppy because the author chose to show some dialogue but not all. Also scenes when Lana finds her father and is connecting with him get the same treatment.
In a book that is both told in first person point of view and is a romance, connecting with characters is all important. One great way to connect with the characters is seeing how they talk to each other. To see the tones they use and what is noticed most by the narrator. Such as 'he said he loved me' doesn't make me feel like I can connect with the relationship.
My favorite of the three vampires Lana falls for is Gideon. He is a man who seems to have a carefree attitude but is also more than ready to be there for emotional comfort. I instantly started to love him and felt that his and Lana's relationship was the strongest in the book. Oz is the first vampire Lana runs across but all he brings to the table is he's rich and sexy. The third vampire is also good but has the most rushed romance in the book. Though he spends the most time with her before doing the nasty, the fact their time connecting with each other is summarized makes it feel faster than it actually was.
I felt like Lana's search for her mother should have been a larger part of this book. It's a great mystery but once Lana finds Oz, it's like her mother is forgotten. Each time her missing mother is brought up it feels unnatural. At one point when Lana intensely tries to figure out what happened to her mother, it's for contrived reasons that ruin the flow of the story.
I would recommend Bedlam Moon by Kathy Haan to those seeking a cheesy romance. I would also recommend Bedlam Moon by Kathy Haan to those seeking a Reverse Harem book involving vampires.
