Love Persevering: Wanda's Ruined Character Arc

The Disney+ show WandaVision followed Wanda Maximoff after the events of Avengers Endgame. After finding out she wouldn't be able to bury Vision due to him being a robot and so not afforded the rights of a human, even though he was an Avenger, she angrily stormed off and went to the town of Westview.

In the little town she allowed her grief to utterly consume her. She put the town in a hex so that it couldn't be accessed by the rest of the world, without great cost, and used everyone as her personal playthings. Wanda even made a replica of Vision who has independence unlike the rest of the town's citizens.

Over the course of the show Wanda came to accept that Vision is dead and what she was doing is wrong. So she frees the citizens of Westview and flies off to a remote area. That was a good end to her character arc and put her back on the path of a hero.

Then came Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that seemed to undo Wanda's character arc just so she could be the villain of the movie.

During her stay a strange naked man starts following her. Once he starts stalking her she finds herself inside of a nightmare where no one will help her. Men was released in 2022. It was directed by Alex Garland. It stars Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear.

Halo Season 1 (Mini-Review)

Aliens known as the Covenant are attacking humanity in the twenty-sixth century. The greatest force humanity has on their side are the Spartans who are genetically enhanced humans. After they drive away Covenant forces from the planet Madrigal, the hint of a new weapon intrigues Doctor Catherine Elizabeth Halsey. She decides to allow John 117 (aka Master Chief) more freedom since he is the only one able to activate the artifact. Halo Season 1 was released on Paramount+ in 2022.

I would like to say that it was forever ago that Season 3 ended. I don't usually make it a point to rewatch old seasons long before a new season's premiere. But with Stranger Things I made an exception.

I'm hoping that this latest season won't disappoint. And remember: this season is being broken into two parts.

Just Say Gay (Journal)

In Florida at the time of posting this there is a bill nicknamed the "Don't Say Gay" bill. Basically what the bill aims to do is to ban talking about the LGBTQ+ community in school. This seems to be a homophobic law aimed to make sure kids won't be gay.

When I was growing up I didn't live in a place where people talked about being in the LGBTQ+ community. As I didn't have a lot of friends growing up, I could count the number of friends on one hand and have fingers left, I wasn't opened to exploring my sexuality.

Did that make me straight?

It took until my freshman year to begin feeling comfortable calling myself bisexual, though I was and still am in the closet in most places. It wasn't until I was in my mid-twenties that I learned about the term genderfluid and so I started referring to myself as that gender identity. Within the past few years I realized I'm not genderfluid but agender.

So all this bill will accomplish is making kids in the LGBTQ+ community hate themselves because they don't know there isn't anything wrong with them. It will also make school more of an utter hell for them.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the latest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Stephen Strange crosses paths with America Chavez who is being hunted because she has the power to travel the multiverse with ease. The only problem is that she can't consciously control her power. Stephen ends up seeking Wanda Maximoff's help only to discover that she has been corrupted by the power of the Darkhold. With his former ally now an enemy, Stephen must go on a journey through the multiverse to save America. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in 2022. It was directed by Sam Raimi. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Moon Knight Season 1 (Mini-Review)

Moon Knight Season 1 is a tv adaptation of the comic book character. Steven Grant is a down on his luck guy who just tries to get through each day. He thinks that he has a sleep walking problem and so ties himself to his bed every night. But one day he falls asleep and then wakes up in Sweden. It is then quickly revealed to him that he actually suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and he is involved with an Egyptian god. Steven and his personality of Marc Spector must team up to stop Harrow from destroying the world. Moon Knight Season 1 was released on Disney+ in 2022.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is coming out soon. Or is already out. I've prepared this giveaway ahead of time so things can change. Possibly this giveaway hasn't happened until a week after the movie's release. Who knows!

Anyways...I love a good multiverse movie as the concept is intriguing all on its own. Everything Everywhere All At Once did things with the concept that I know the new Doctor Strange won't. One is a big Hollywood production and the other isn't. Plus the latter film was produced by A24 who tends to release unique films.

I have kept away from the bigger spoilers but it does seem that with this movie Disney wants to tie in all the Marvel properties they own. Plus it does seem from the trailers that keeping up with the Marvel Disney+ shows will benefit viewers.

Memory (Mini-Review)

Memory is another adaptation of De Zaak Alzheimer by Jef Geeraerts. Alex Lewis is an ageing assassin that wants to get out of the business due to his fading memory. He decides to complete one last mission before retiring but things go south when he refuses to kill one of his targets. His change of heart means that the people who hired him and the FBI are both after him. Making things even worse, Alex's memory goes away at the worst possible moments. Memory was released in 2022. It was directed by Martin Campbell. It stars Liam Neeson, Guy Pearce, and Monica Bellucci.
