47 Meters Down: Uncaged is a sequel that has an entirely new cast. It was released in August 2019. It is directed by Johannes Roberts. The movie stars Sistine Rose Stallone, Nia Long, and Corinne Foxx. While having a different list of characters than the first one, some style choices stayed from the first movie. Such as looking up to the surface of the sea and it turns into a pool. The fact that both sisters have some aspect they don't like about each other. The biggest change from the original is that there isn't any importance about 47 Meters. In the first movie the title came from being how far down the two sisters were.
In the first movie one sister felt like the other outshone her. In this movie the two sisters can't stand each other and don't like spending time together. That conflict is quickly dropped so fast it was pointless.
In a majority of killer shark movies there is no reason for sharks to be around the protagonists except the script says so. In this movie there is a valid reason: these super great white sharks live off of the fish in the submerged caves and so fresh meat is to be relished.
The best sequence of the movie comes near the end. I actually felt tension during it and breathless afterwards. The whole sequence is well paced giving just enough time for viewers to catch their breath but not too much time.
On the downside...there are jump scares and plot points that are entirely predictable. One of the earlier jump scares made the woman in front of me slam backwards into her seat, so I guess not everyone will be able to predict them. One of the deaths made me laugh out loud because I was just waiting for it.
If you enjoyed the first 47 Meters Down you should enjoy this sequel.
