Intelligent, beautiful; 16-yearr-old Bethany Childs is now officially a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. But, that innocence is savagely taken away on the night of her birthday, and a part of her won’t let it go.
Under the wing of an age-old demon – who facilitates Bethany’s revenge by imbuing the girl with supernatural powers – Bethany reveals her story in a ‘no-nonsense’ fashion, apologizing not for her torment nor asking for sympathy, but pleading for an understanding of the demonic forces she employs, and the fatalities that ensue in her wake.
“It is not the future I saw for myself…” If Bethany is to believe in herself once again, and renounce Hell’s brutal, iniquitous ways, she will need to open her eyes and heart to a world that will never be the way she remembers. Only then can there be salvation in her name.
Talking With Steven Deighan
What was the inspiration for writing Bethany Chiller®?
From a journey I made on a train in Scotland. It was the Glasgow Central line heading into Haymarket, whereby passing through near Gorgie I spotted a tent pitched on its own by the side of the tracks. What was in that tent? I wondered. You are wondering, too, I assume. Well, buy the book and see for yourself! The Tent is a special bonus story that ends Bethany Chiller®!!!
What was the writing process like for Bethany Chiller®?
In between raising almost 9 children; survived an ischaemic stroke; and in the middle of heart transplant surgery (not literally!), it was a tough time seeing this story through. I worked with a few editors and illustrators to get the feeling right.
What music did you listen to while writing Bethany Chiller®?
Ghost (Swedish band)
What was your favorite scene in Bethany Chiller® to write?
The scenes that I tried to relay in the third person. It's our main protagonist doing her bidding against those who wronged her! I also enjoyed every bit of dialogue, too.
What was the hardest scene in Bethany Chiller® to write?
[Spoiler!] BC® is an adult book with one very disturbing scene. Approach it with caution, particularly if you're sensitive to upsetting scenes. Some reviews have mentioned it already.
