Birds of Prey (Mini-Review)

Birds of Prey: And The Fabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is a sequel to Suicide Squad that focuses on what happens when Harley Quinn cuts all ties with the Joker. The movie came out in February of 2020. It stars Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It is directed by Cathy Yan.

This movie's driving force is Harley Quinn trying to figure out what to do in a life without the Joker. As his mistress she had been protected from many who would like nothing more than for her to die. Without his protection she has to find strength to live in this new dangerous world. Her problems are compounded when she gets involved with Cassandra Cain as she quickly begins to take a liking to the wanted girl.

Some of the sequences are shown out of order with jarring flashbacks. This actually works in favor of the movie as it allows viewers to get inside the mind of Harley Quinn. Viewers are also rewarded with voice overs from the character which makes the survival of a certain sandwich dramatic.

Ewan McGregor did a superb job with his role of Roman Sionis. Besides Margot Robbie, his performance was my favorite of the film. While Roman is a horrible person, the charm of McGregor's acting makes him fun to see.

After the credits there is a message from Harley Quinn.

I would recommend Birds of Prey to someone looking for a good comic book movie.
