Continuum (Season 3)
Show: Continuum
Season: 3
Episodes: 13
Created By: Simon Barry
Released: 2014
Rating: 5/6
Basic Plot: Kiera finds herself with the Freelancers and having to decide which of the two Alecs should live.

Things Get Even More WTF
This series gives viewers more questions as they are given answers. Things are simple in Season 1, complicated in Season 2, and what the hell is going on in Season 3. Alliances shift and new organizations are revealed. Hell, there is now at least one other timeline and there are arguments if the character is really from a different timeline or just farther along in the future. So, yeah, prepare to get your mind fucked for this season because...wow.
Kellog
Kellog just proves how manipulative he is this season. We have never known, in the previous seasons, what Kellog's end goal is. All we knew was that he is great at getting people to do what he wants. It seemed that he really had no end goal. But by the end of Season 3 you get to see where Kellog stands. Or maybe the next season will provide us with more questions.
The Freelancers
The Freelancers are a group that basically monitors time to make sure people don't mess it up. They don't like time travelers and when you first meet them you're not too sure about whether to trust them or not. Their organization is complicated, especially as the season progresses. They task Kiera with killing one of the two Alecs. One Alec is the one Kiera knew and the other Alec is from the new timeline that the original Alec created when he time traveled. I would really love to say more but I also don't want to spoil too much.
Final Thoughts
I am so glad to the person who introduced this series to me. This is one of those series that makes you think. The thing about the two Alecs was really hard to deal with. What future was the right one? And also how the new Alec was different was heartbreaking at times. Kiera's beliefs continue to be questioned and we end up learning more about her past. This season ends on a cliffhanger and I really can't wait until the next season (though I don't know if it's confirmed).

Continuum and Good Storytelling
Continuum is a Canadian Sci-Fi show that airs on the SyFy channel here in the US. It tells the story of Kiera Cameron who is accidentally sent back in time and has to stop the terrorist organization known as Liber8 from changing the future.
That is the basic premise, but the show is complicated from a character and moral standpoint. Season 1 gives you a taste of how complicated things will get and by Season 3 things are far from simple. Characters change and their true motives are revealed. Or, at least, what they decide to reveal.
While Liber8 is said to be the villain of the series from the first scene: Are they really evil or are they going about doing something good in an extreme manner?
The future is far from perfect with something called the Corporate Congress being in charge. Our first reactions to the future are shown to us through the eyes of Kiera Cameron. A character who is highly biased in favor the future.
I feel Liber8 has a noble goal, but that they aren't shinning angels because of how much they are willing to do for their cause. This is awesome because the show doesn't paint the bad guys as truly evil and makes you put yourselves in their shoes. So you can disagree but respect their end goal at the same time.
Another big question in the series is should the future be changed.
During the first Season the answer seems to be no with only a few minor points against it. But as the series goes on, and you see how horrible the future is, you start agreeing more with the fact that the future should be changed. In the beginning of the third Season it appears that it is extremely dangerous to attempt to change the future.
However, the fact remains that if you have the power to change the future it's in the grey area of morality if you should.
Those are the two main reasons why I love this show. It makes you question the series and see people as people instead of just good and bad.
If you love time travel and like good storytelling, I highly recommend this show to you.

Continuum (Season 2)
Show: Continuum
Season: 2
Episodes: 13
Created By: Simon Barry
Released: 2013
Rating: 4.5/5
Basic Plot: Kiera Cameron continues to try and make sure her future survives while Alec Sadler comes to terms with the revelation from the Season 1 Finale.

Expanding the Universe
In series it's good to expand on boundaries. Such as Fringe deciding to go in the direction that there is more than one universe. In both Fringe and Continuum, expanding on the universe answers questions rather than creating more for the sake of mystery. In Season 2 you find out that it might not have been an accident that Kiera got sent back in time and that Alec (his future self) had something to do with that decision. I really loved Alec's backstory being expanded upon this season.
Should The Future Be Changed
Throughout this Season the question is raised if the future should be changed. Kiera Cameron believes in keeping the future the same so that she can return to her son and husband. Alec Sadler, who received some interesting news at the end of last season, thinks it should be changed. I believe both believe their position to be right because they have a personal stake in their answer being right. For Kiera, she has her family at stake (since I'm never going to have children I can only connect to her returning to her husband). For Alec, he is trying to avoid the mistakes his future self made.
More Than Two Sides
In the first season it was Kiera against Liber8. There was right and there was wrong. True, both sides were heavily in the grey but there were only two sides. In the second season there are more sides. It turns out Alec's future self has some dealings with what is happening in the past and had a hand in sending others back. There are the freelancers whose side isn't very clear, just that they aren't on Liber8's side. Julian is also changing and gets his own group of people.
Final Thoughts
One of my favorite parts of this season is when Kiera finally tells Carlos about who she really is. I admit her first go-around telling him didn't go well, but when she finally did it was great. I enjoyed seeing the continuation of this series and think this Season brings this series higher instead of taking it down. The finale for this season really shook me and I can't wait until next season. What happened to Alec? What the heck is going on with Kiera and some other people? I must have answers now!

Continuum (Season 1)
Dates mentioned here are for the airing of the show in the US. Though SyFy says this is an original series, it was originally aired in Canada. For giving us this show: We thank you, Canada!
Show: Continuum
Season: 1
Episodes: 10
Developed By: Simon Barry
Released: 2013
Rating: 5/5
Plot: A detective from the year 2077 finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver and searching for ruthless criminals from the future.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Time Travel
As you can tell, this show is a time travel one. And you know what that means! The people from the future acting incredibly stupid with all the technology here in the present! Oh, wait, sorry. This show actually does the confusion people in the future would face when going back in time good. Don't get me wrong, Kiera Cameron doesn't know how to work a car or about blue tooths (teeth?). However, every instance of confusion she has is dealt with realistically and is not done over the top. You don't know how great that is to see in a work of fiction.
Relationships (Non-Romantic)
When Kiera goes back in time she quickly gets into communications with Alec Sadler, a teenager. Alec, from Kiera's 2077, is the owner of a very large corporation. But, for now, he's a teenager with an amazing grasp on technology. Throughout the Season (not counting the Season Finale) you think that Kiera being sent back in time was an accident. But Future Alec seems to have had a part in it (the Season ends with Alec about to tell Kiera but then it goes to credits, cliffhangers can be a bitch). The one person from Liber8 (a terrorist group from the future) that Kiera seems to spend any time with is Matthew Kellog. Their relationship is interesting as it's one full of love-hate. One where Kiera is never sure if she can trust him.
Kiera's Trust Issues
Kiera is a good character and a joy to follow through her many adventures. But she doesn't do a good job at trusting people. She doesn't even seem to fully trust Alec who is the only ally she has that really knows her. You could say Kellog is an ally, but he is seen both hurting and helping Kiera during different points in the Season. Finally, Carlos Fonnegra is her police partner who she seems to like. It never gets to an actual relationship but it is heavily hinted that she wants it to happen. However, with one of Kiera's comments to Kellog, it might be because she still considers herself married (even if her husband is in a future she'll never get back to). Those are her trust issues with other people, but she also seems to rely heavily on her technology. For a little period of time she has to deal with working without her suit (it was damaged in a fight) and has her putting faith more in herself than her technology. An interesting if short lived story arch.
Final Thoughts
If there is one thing I'd thank Canada for, it's this show. I was recommended this because I'm a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and this is a time traveling show. The main villains of this series (Liber8) aren't pure evil. They have a good goal and so you start to sympathize with them. And at the end of this season you realize Liber8's true purpose might be something much bigger than you first thought. Also, Kagame looks eerily similar to an English Professor I had back in college. Hi, Wilt! I cannot wait until Season 2 comes to the US and I can feed this addiction. If you want a really well done Sci-Fi series, check this one out. You owe it to yourself.
