Pretty Little Liars is Back

THIS WAS WRITTEN BEFORE ORIGINAL SIN PREMIERED!

I tend to watch serious shows or at least shows that fall in the science fiction, fantasy, or horror genres. It's extremely rare for me to break that trend but break that trend with Pretty Little Liars I did. I don't know why I was attracted to it but I kept watching until the very last episode.

Original Sin, a spin-off of Pretty Little Liars, will be coming out later this month. Will I be watching this spin-off even though I had no interest in the other two?

Yep. And, no, I don't know why I'm intrigued by this spin-off more than the other two.

So I'm going to go down memory lane as I prepare for Original Sin.

Why 'A' Should be a Liar

Pretty Little Liars was the first show I started watching after Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles was cancelled. When the Terminator show was cancelled I started hating every show that was still on air. Yeah...I had a little bit of an obsession there.

But I got drawn into the town of Rosewood and haven't been able to stop watching since the first season. The show's big mystery is who 'A' is. 'A' is the person(s) harassing the Liars (aka Spencer, Hanna, Emily, and Aria).

Dark Plots
This show doesn't go dark like some shows I watch (looking at you, Hannibal) and so saying part of Pretty Little Liars is dark isn't usually saying much. But this season we got a look at Spencer's drug addiction. They did that very well and I was so hoping that Spencer would turn out to have been a murderer. Though I was disappointed by where that plot line went, but I had already guessed the show wouldn't go down that road as it's currently airing on abcFamily, I was delighted by where the Alison plot line ended up by the finale.

Ezra Fitz
I am one of those people that wanted Ezra to be A. As an English Major, it'd delight me to no end to see an English Teacher be a bad person. While you may think us English Majors just quietly read and write, we can be deadly! Anyways...a mystery of this season is if Ezra is A or not. How that mystery is resolved really hits Aria in the guts because she trusted and loved the man. It was really great for Aria to not immediately go back to him and say everything was fine.

Film Noir
There was an episode that was a film noir styled one. The reason in story to do this was that Spencer was hallucinating from taking drugs. The episode was beyond wonderful and the girls all looked great in their outfits. The episode is called "Shadow Play". Even if you're not a fan of the show, that episode is good for the style alone.

Final Thoughts
This season did go darker than previous ones, especially the Season Finale. Caleb ended up leaving the show and went to star on the spin-off show Ravenswood. No, I haven't seen an episode of that show but might in the future. Especially if any of my readers wants to know my opinions on it. There are so many questions at the end of this season that I can't wait until Season 5 starts!

Pretty Little Liars "Close Encounters" Review

http://astore.amazon.com/jashykins-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=40
I haven't talked about the show that much lately on this blog. I have not forgotten about it, far from it, but haven't been able to post about it for awhile. I like to get my reviews written the day after a show airs since I DVR nearly everything.

So what did I think about this week's episode?

I know the Aria cheating (?) on Jake with Ezra thing was supposed to be a big thing but I didn't really feel angry at Aria at all. It might be because a lot of time has seemed to passed when it hasn't. Hell, I had forgotten who Jake was until this episode.

So if I had remembered who Jake was before this episode...I don't know. On one hand I'd be mad at Aria for getting back together with Ezra before she told Jake that they were through but on the other hand Jake was going to go anyways. Ezria always looks like they're breaking apart and then they just come back together. In any relationship on this show I assume when someone is with another that they are exclusive (aka they don't see other people).

The Alison plot line is continuing nicely. She manages to get Emily alone, but then the meeting is ended when Spencer interrupts them. While Emily is mad about this Spencer brings out a good point: Alison is trying to split them apart. She made Emily seem special so that she could be manipulated.

Emily is mad about that but, really, Alison seems to be a jerk in all the flashbacks. Why the hell WOULDN'T she do that? I mean...why do the girls think Alison is some angel when she isn't?

Alison has been saying that she can't return to Rosewood because she's scared of someone. While I believed that to be A (aka Ezra), I am loving some of the theories where Spencer has a split personality disorder.

This would be why Toby and her father are trying to not expose the truth about what happened at Radley.

I know this probably isn't going to happen, but I so wish it would. It probably would happen on another network, though. But ABC Family is a light and fluffy channel.

Yes, Pretty Little Liars is light and fluffy even with how many dark turns it takes.
