JASH

As I walked through the aftermath of the battle in my Saxhleel form, I took note of how different I perceived the world. The hybrid form was full of power and it put fear into people’s hearts. But now I felt…normal.

I would rather feel normal than never see out of Saxhleel eyes ever again.

A groan snapped me from my thoughts and firmly into the bloody aftermath. The men that lived were either unable to walk or helping those that couldn’t move. We had healers but with the flood of wounded they were being overworked.

If the last three years had taught me anything, though, we wouldn’t lose too many men that currently lived on Mundus.

The piles of Thalmor corpses far outweighed Reforged and yet…yet even one of my men dead was too much. Each of the Reforged was only here because of me. They trusted and believed in me. They were more than willing to fight by my side and die for me when the need arose. But that would never ease the guilt in my veins.

“War means bloodshed.” I whispered in Jel and tried not to think how my scales looked like dried blood. “Bloodshed does not discriminate. It is impossible to fight and have all your men live.”

I caught the only light that could pierce my mood.

Sissel, covered in blood, was healing all those she came across. There was a gentleness in every movement she made that calmed our men. She turned to look at me as I walked towards her.

“Jash, you need to rest.” Sissel said sternly.

“I am not in danger of dying.” I retorted. “Unlike the men that fight for me, I can’t die.”

“Daedric Princes can die.”

“Not through loss of blood.”

I smirked at the serious expression on Sissel’s face as she got up from the now healed Dunmer woman. My consort’s strides brought her quickly to my side. I didn’t expect her to say anything and she didn’t. Instead she grabbed my arm and nearly dragged me back to our tent.

It was ours to have power enough to stop this indignity but I didn’t. To do so would be to show discord between the leaders of the Reforged. And then there was the fact that I liked her taking control like this.

Without words Sissel directed me to sit on the edge of our bed. A small thing that barely qualified as a piece of furniture.

I watched intently as Sissel sent healing light from her hands to my scales. She didn’t leave an inch unexplored and I hissed at the pain of wounds I didn’t know I had. After this war she would be a great teacher in the School of Restoration.

“Do you want me to leave any scars?” Sissel teased.

“This one is enough.” I laughed and pointed to the large scar that took up half of my face.

A few minutes later Sissel had completed healing me and I felt a new surge of energy in my limbs.

Sissel leaned down and pressed her lips firmly into mine. As she continued to kiss me and I returned her affection, she put her arms around my neck. Battle was one source of heat but the kind she provided was so much stronger.

“It is ours to treasure your company, Sissel.” I said. “You were the only one I wanted as my consort for this war.”

“Don’t lie.” Sissel teased. “I saw the way you looked at Elisif.”

“High Queen Elisif to you, my consort.”

Sissel laughed as if she had won a fight.

“I wish you would marry me, Jash.” Sissel said.

“My consort, I-“

“I know why you’ll leave me and it has nothing to do with a lack of love for me. You think I deserve better.”

“You do deserve better than the likes of me.”

“I have never wanted to be anywhere but you.”

“I can’t offer you the love you seek. And I don…I don’t want to leave you an empty husk. We could end things now.”

“I’ll take you any way I can, my love.”

As my kisses traveld from her mouth to her-I turned to see a soldier enter my tent and out of the corner of my eye I saw Sissel blushing.

“Is the news you carry important?” I growled.

“Yes, Jash.” The man said and a shocked look came over his face. “Yes, General.”

“What is the news?” I asked as Sissel took her place in front of me.

“We’ve captured a man.”

“So not a Thalmor or else you would not have interrupted me. An ally of the Thalmor?”

“He’s of the same race as your husband Alex Casey.”
