Kelly Tabor and Richard Rossi live on opposite coasts of the United States so they wrote the book through Zoom meetings.
What music did you listen to while writing Lucy and the Lake Monster?
Co-author Richard Rossi is an Oscar-considered composer, so he wrote songs like "You, Champ, and Me" about their story, to inspire the writing process. Richard's songs will be in the film version of the book which is coming out later this year. His brother Joe Rossi produced the soundtrack.
What was your favorite scene in Lucy and the Lake Monster to write?
The climatic scene of Lucy and Papa on the lake searching for Champ was one of the favorite scenes for Kelly and Richard to write.
What was the hardest thing in Lucy and the Lake Monster to write?
Lucy is an orphan who lost both her parents. Writing about her grief was challenging to write about. But Richard and Kelly show how to overcome grief, anxiety, and mental health challenges in a way that helps the reader psychologically.
