Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Mini-Review)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie. When Adam Warlock comes to capture Rocket, his attempt isn't successful but Rocket is left in mortal danger. Peter Quill and the other Guardians soon find themselves in the crosshairs of the High Evolutionary when they seek to save Rocket. The man believes he is seeking to create a perfect world when in reality he just wants to control everything. As Rocket gets closer and closer to death, he starts to hallucinate when the High Evolutionary used him as a mere plaything. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released in 2023. It was directed by James Gunn. It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan.

There are mid and post credits scenes. The mid-credits scene shows how the Guardians are doing after the movie. The post-credits scene focuses on one member of the Guardians. As this is the last Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the first half of the credits shows stills from the entire trilogy.

This movie explores Rocket's past and it is more than horrifying. Of course I knew he had been experimented on earlier in the series, but seeing it happen...it wasn't easy. He had friendships that were torn away from him and those explain why he is so broken when we first meet him. It turns out that he didn't know he was a racoon. At least there's one moment that shows him looking at raccoons and another when he confusedly says he's not a raccoon to someone he would have no reason to be insulted by.

By the ending of the previous Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I thought that Adam Warlock would be a bigger threat than he ended up being. Turns out the poor boy had been woken up before he could be considered an adult. Heck, he ends up adopting an alien dog creature. You can't be a total monster if you look at a dog and want to give it all the love in the world.

Peter Quill's relationship with Gamora is dealt with harshly in the movie. Previously Gamora was murdered and the one in this movie is an alternate universe version. Instead of things ending up romantically perfect for the pair, a more realistic thing happens. This Gamora just wants to live her own life and she makes that perfectly clear. She's probably sick and tired of the Guardians recounting tales to her about a stranger. At one point she screams at Peter that she isn't there to replace the woman he loved. Though by the end of the movie it seems both have a greater respect for the other.

The High Evolutionary is one of the scariest villains in the MCU. It could be that he reminds me of my own father. Someone so far up where the sun don't shine that they are incapable of realizing how evil their actions are. This villain ends up destroying an entire planet because it didn't live up to his standards of what life should be.

I would highly recommend Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to fans of the MCU. I would also highly recommend Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to fans of James Gunn. I would also recommend Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to science fiction fans.
