UPDATE: For some reason I got when Georgie and Stan's fates happened in the book mixed up. Georgie's happens in the first chapter while Stan's happens in the third chapter.
IT Chapter 2 was released in 2019 and stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader. It is a sequel to IT Chapter 1 which, like the sequel, was an adaptation of IT by Stephen King. Unlike the book, the movies decided to make the story linear. This movie deals with the Losers as adults coming back to the town.
Because of this linear format I found a few parts lacking from their book counterparts. The book began with the fate of Stan Uris which immediately drew readers into trying to figure out the mystery. While Stan's fate is still moving in the movie, it just lacks something.
This movie spends time fleshing out the time period from the last movie. This means some scenes book readers missed out on last time, are here to be enjoyed. Though this did help to remind me why the book's non-linear format worked so well. With every chapter you learned more and more about the characters with the mystery giving you energy to finish.
The beginning of the movie seems similar to one of the stories of the town from the book. It was extremely nerve-wracking for me on a personal level.
There is a Stephen King cameo so watch out for that. Speaking of the author...there is a running gag throughout the movie of people not liking the ending to Bill's book. I thought it was a meta comment about King's books. Specifically how some people love his stories, but loathe the endings.
I would recommend this movie to Stephen King fans, people who liked the first movie, and horror fans.
