Since Hannibal got completely snubbed for this year's Emmys, I was cheering on The Normal Heart which is my pick for best movie of 2014 (this is the only movie on the list that I'm certain will not change its rank by the end of the year). I was really hoping Mark Ruffalo would get a win for his outstanding performance as Ned Weeks.
If Ruffalo failed in his role of Ned then the movie wouldn't have had much of an impact as he was the central character and you were meant to connect with him.
So how did the Emmys treat The Normal Heart this year?

Hannibal Snubbed at 2014 Emmys

But, nope, they actually put a lot of time and effort into their creation. Mads Mikkelsen plays the title role of Hannibal Lecter and ends up giving Anthony Hopkins a run for his money. Hugh Dancy plays Will Graham with a deep and moving performance each time. Every other actor plays their character just like the characters deserve.
The sound and music of the series just adds to the creepiness that the visuals show. It is really a lovely thing to behold.
This year at the Emmys, none of the actors of the show were given the light of day. Hell, not even the series itself was nominated. I think this is just part of a larger problem with award shows like this one.
The thing is it seems a lot of the judges like to play things safe. So shows that aren't safe, like Hannibal, find it much more difficult to get nominated in them. People love saying that they want something different and that they want to see more shows/movies taking chances. However, when shows that do both of those things come along...you don't see the shows/movies getting nominated. They may have a cult following, but hardly a trophy or two to their name.
So, those people in charge of the Emmys, Hannibal deserves at least a nomination or two. The cast and crew work tirelessly to bring viewers a great show every week and they should be rewarded for doing so. Having an Emmy for the show would prove to doubters that Hannibal is a good piece of work.
Unrelated Note: Congrats to Mark Ruffalo for his nomination for his role of Ned Weeks in the HBO movie The Normal Heart. His performance was beyond outstanding, just like the rest of the movie. It's my favorite movie of the year, so far, and I'd highly recommend you see it right now.
