Title: Fifty Shades of Grey
Series: Fifty Shades Trilogy
Author: E.L. James
Released: 2011
Rating: 2.5/5
Basic Plot: A young, naive virgin falls in love with a troubled young man.
Better Than Twilight
This book makes some improvements on Twilight. And, no, it's not just because of the sex scenes. Reasons for the characters acting the way they do are explained. True, they are cliche/flimsy explanations but they are there. Jose/Jacob is dismissed early on. Christian/Edward had a hard childhood. Anastasia/Bella...well, she's naive and shit.
Two Good Scenes
To me there was only two good scenes. If the book followed those scenes for the rest of the 500 pages then it would've gotten a higher rating. The first sex scene filled me with nostalgia and the end break up scene was good. The end scene was well chosen as you'd want to see what happens next. It leaves things unresolved. This is very good when doing a series.
Why All the British Stuff
One of the most annoying things about this book was the tea and the old books. Calling one very sad and depressing book light reading? Everything Anna chooses (except for a few instances) are classic/British. Since I don't read much fanfiction, I only know from people saying that this is a sign of a Mary Sue. I don't get why liking stuff like this would make a better character. 'Cause, guess what, it doesn't in this novel.
Final Thoughts
There were somethings I didn't mention and that I might in the future (once I finish the trilogy). Such as it being banned in Florida libraries (for a short time) or how I feel about this being fanfiction originally. But those didn't have to do with the contents of this book. Let me just say that it's a fun read but don't take it seriously. Nor try to be like Anna or find a guy like Christian. In fiction their love can work, but it's unhealthy in real life.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)
Title: A Game of Shadows
Series: Sherlock Holmes
Director: Guy Ritchie
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Jared Harris
Rated: PG-13
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4/5
revrezner's rating: N/A
Oscars: None
Basic Plot: Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.
Homo-eroticism
For those of you who ship Sherlock Holmes and Watson: you will LOVE the train scene. It's like the people weren't even trying. They gave up to the people who ship the main pair. Also to add to the homo eroticism is the fact that the wife isn't shown throughout the majority of the film. Hell, Sherlock pushes her out of the train!
Jared Harris, no!
Once I saw him as the main villain I knew he would die. Anyone who knows their Sherlock Holmes would guess Harris' character would die. I should've waited to see this movie. I recovered from him dying in Fringe. Now I am recovering from him committing suicide on Mad Men. So seeing him die now isn't helping me at all.
Noomi Rapace
The original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is good in this movie. It was great seeing her in Prometheus and again in this movie. If I had to decide between those two movies: she is hotter in this one (plus, no c-section scene!).
Final Thoughts
This is awesome. Is it better or worse than the original? Four Names: Robert Downey Jr., Jared Harris, Jude Law, and Noomi Rapace. I rest my case. I don't know what the case is, but I rested the hell out of it!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
Title: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Director: Tomas Alfredson
Starring: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Tom Hardy
Rated: R
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 3.5/5
Oscars: Nominated for 3
Basic Plot: In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6.
Flashbacks
I hated the flashbacks in this film. Not because of what they show, but because the fact that they're flashbacks isn't easy to tell. This made getting plot points a little hard. Nothing against flashbacks, but you have to make sure that the audience knows what scenes are flashbacks.
Get The Wrong One Out
A name that cast and crew referred to this movie as was Get the Wrong One Out. This was a reference to both finding the mole AND the director's previous film. If you want to know, I haven't seen Let the Right One In yet.
Has An Old Timey Spy Feeling
One of the reasons I enjoyed this film was the fact that it appeared that it was made back in the day. The music, font, and other things made it appear that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a space time anomaly. It has the quality of a film of today but the feeling of an old film.
Final Thoughts
This isn't a bad film, it is enjoyable. If you don't like slow films you won't like this one. However, if you want a good feeling film (quality wise), this is a good film to see. This movie is a remake and based on a book of the same name. I haven't seen or read previous incarnations. Though I believe one character that is gay in this film was straight in a previous incarnation.

The Ides of March (2011)
Title: The Ides of March
Director: George Clooney
Starring: Paul Giamatti, George Clooney and Philip Seymour Hoffman
Rated: R
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4/5
Oscars: Nominated
Basic Plot: An idealistic staffer for a new presidential candidate gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail.
Not All Politics
For those that are worried about being bored by a political movie: have no fear! I hate politics. But this is more of a character study and has the theme of having one's eyes opened. Most of the 'action' deals with what goes on behind the scenes. As I'm not familiar with politics, I don't know how factual the information in this movie is.
Relationships in Politics
Throughout the movie you see people ignoring friendship in order to win. This is treated as an everyday event (except by the main character). It's scary to see what winning actual means and how no one is safe from playing the same games. It proves my point of politics being less about honesty than about winning.
Title of the Movie
The title refers to The Tragedy of Julius Caesar (by William Shakespeare) cannot be ignored. Both are political and both are about the death of something (one literally and one metaphorically).
Final Thoughts
I highly recommend this movie to anyone that wants to see a well done tragedy. It's very moving and will at least leave you teary eyed. Everything fits in this universe. Again, don't be scared away by the political aspect. It's much more of a behind the scenes movie.

The Muppets (2011)
Title: The Muppets
Series: The Muppets
Director: James Bobin
Starring: Amy Adams, Jason Segel, and Chris Cooper
Rated: PG
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 5/5
Oscars: 1
Basic Plot: With the help of three fans, The Muppets must reunite to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon.
Original Plot
What I find interesting is that originally Kermit pretended to be the oil tycoon to get The Muppets back together. HOWEVER, this makes no sense. Why the fuck would Kermit do this? I am very glad that they decided to change this. That's just not the dark road a Muppet movie should go down.
Casting Is Fantastic
I knew a good majority of the actors (even those who made cameos) and was glad they got into the movie. While an actor does not write a movie, the casting just made the movie ten times better. Jason Segel's love of puppets made me see this movie in a greater light. Only thing is that no Frank Oz made me a little sad.
Lessons of Growing Up/Apart
At the center of this film is Walter and Gary's relationship. What makes this so moving is that everyone can relate to this. The point in your life where you and your friends move apart. Not because you hate each other, but that's because that's the way life is. Even the closet friends have to stop spending so much time with each other as time goes on. This was one of my favorite aspects of the movie.
Final Thoughts
This is a must see for Muppet fans and those who love comedy. There are so many jokes (the fourth wall jokes being especially funny to me) that telling them all would ruin the movie. I was laughing the whole way through. The cameos were very well done (such as Neil Patrick Harris).

Dream House (2011)
Title: Dream House
Director: Jim Sheridan
Starring: Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Naomi Watts
Rated: PG-13
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4.5/5
Oscars: None
Basic Plot: Soon after moving into their seemingly idyllic new home, a family learns of a brutal crime committed against former residents of the dwelling.
The Trailers
One reason that people don't like Dream House is the fact that the trailer gave a lot away. The one or two trailers for this movie I saw did give a little away. Especially saying Will Atintin is Peter Ward. However, if you didn't watch a lot of trailers you should have a better enjoyment of the movie.
A Messy Script
I know what went on behind the scenes. How the making of this movie was a big mess. However, I like the final product. I'm sure it could've been better. But, as is, it's nothing to complain about.
MPD
I understand that the name of this mental disorder has changed, but I will always refer to it as MPD (aka Multiple Personality Disorder). I love movies about those who don't have a good grip on reality. Such as Secret Window, Total Recall, and Shutter Island among others. Will (Daniel Craig) suffered so much from killing his family that he creates a fantasy world in which they are still alive. However, I don't consider it a twist. This is because it's easy to see within five to ten minutes of the movie. But, to make up for that, there is a final twist revealed at the end.
Final Thoughts
I like this movie. Daniel Craig, horror movie, Rachel Weiz, and Naomi Watts in a film together! Plus the story unfolds at a good pace. Even when I guessed what was happening it still managed to send chills through my mind. The scene where Will/Peter goes back to his home to find out what happens rock. Because Will/Peter is actually questioning himself.

My Week with Marilyn (2011)
Title: My Week with Marilyn
Based on the Books: My Week with Marilyn AND The Prince, the Showgirl and Me
Book By: Colin Clark
Director: Simon Curtis
Starring: Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne, and Kenneth Branagh
Rated: R
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4.5/5
Oscars: 2 Nominations
Basic Plot: Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.
Made Me Slightly Interested in Marilyn Monroe
I had heard about Marilyn before, of course. But this movie gave me my first interest in her. This should be credited to Michelle Williams, as her acting is superb. Of course I'm not obsessed with her, by any means, but I am now interested in learning more about her.
Emma Watson
I am a Harry Potter fan. So, of course, I saw all the movies more than once (I highly abused Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). And Emma Watson played Hermione Granger who is a book smart girl. It was nice to see her playing a completely different character. This shows that she's not limited to her Harry Potter fame, and can actually do shit!
Behind the Scenes
This movie focuses on some behind the scenes things. The main one deals with getting Marilyn Monroe able to act. And, really, that's what is being fought against in this film. But don't take that to mean that you'll learn much about what goes on behind the sets on movies.
Final Thoughts
This isn't the kind of movie I usually watch, nor am I that familiar with Marilyn. But, I still enjoyed the movie a lot! Michelle Williams and Emma Watson were both lookers in this movie. The music was good to set the mood and it was a good homage. I would highly suggest you see this movie. I'm sure those who think something is missing can write their own fanfiction to fill the 'holes'.

Pretty Little Liars (Season 2)
Show: Pretty Little Liars
Season: 2
Episodes: 25
Developed By: I. Marlene King
Based on the Book Series by: Sara Shepard
Released: 2011-2012
Rating: 4/5
Basic Plot: The search for A deepens. The Liars get new allies to help with their search.
Return of Maya
I am Team Emaya (Emily and Maya) all the way! I just think Maya goes awesome with Emily. Suffice it to say that I was more than excited to see her return this season. The only thing wrong this season with her (besides her probably dying) was that Emily couldn't keep a good relationship with her. If Maya is truly dead my vote is that Emily goes for Samara. While Samara isn't Emily's perfect match, she is still an awesome girl I'd like to see again.
Melissa Appeared to be A
You have probably heard my rant about the A "reveal" (if you haven't, there are a lot of other fans ranting about it too), but before the "reveal" many people suspected Melissa of being A. While in Season 1 she wasn't a suspect, she took center stage as an A suspect. A group of fans gathered together to list their reasons of why A is Melissa.
Ezria and Spody
Ezria (Ezra and Aria) and Spody (Spencer and Toby) were my two favorite couples of this Season (as Emaya wasn't really a thing throughout the majority of this Season). Ezria is a cute couple but they need to get rid of nearly splitting up every other episode. It got boring the 50th time it was done. As for Spody, this is a much more stress filled relationship. It's a relationship I can really get into.
Final Thoughts
I liked this Season. It did go a much darker path. There was much more of a threat to the Liars and those they loved. There was Spencer breaking up with Toby to protect him, Hanna going to great lengths to protect Caleb from A, and that creepy ass Night Doll Shop Scene. And this season got a little more "adultish" with Ezria FINALLY having sex!

The Adventures of Tintin (2011)
Title: The Adventures of Tintin
Based on the Comic Book Series: The Adventures of Tintin
Director: Steven Spielberg
Starring: Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, and Daniel Craig
Rated: PG
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4.5/5
Oscars: Nominated for 1
Basic Plot: Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor.
The Graphics
The graphics in this movie are VERY well done. From the characters, to surroundings, and everything else. I liked the fact that, in the very beginning of the movie, they showed how Tintin originally looked in the comics. They did this without even making it look odd. You can tell that time was spent on the graphics used in this movie.
Scharlaken Rackham
This character is just AWESOME! The evilness drips from every inch of this character. From the first time you meet him you know he's no good. And his villain does seem evil to my adult mind. Daniel Craig does an excellent job in this role. In no way do you feel pity for Scharlaken. And, at the same time, you savor every moment he's on screen. He's one of those villains you just love to hate.
3D Version
I did not see this in 3D. However, on the IMDB Trivia page (for this movie) it showed that Steven Spielberg did spend time on the 3D. aka It wasn't Post-Production 3D. However, I can't tell if the end product is good.
Final Thoughts
This is a great movie and I agree that it was snubbed in this year's Oscars. There were so many good performances and the story telling was outstanding. I haven't read the original comics so I can't say how this compares to them. But the movie is still enjoyable. I would highly recommend you go out and see this movie.

The Thing (2011)
Title: The Thing
Series: The Thing
Director: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.
Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, and Ulrich Thomsen
Rated: R
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4/5
Oscars: None
Basic Plot: At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson.
The Prequel Vs. The Original
I LOVE John Carpenter's The Thing. It is one of the VERY few horror movies that scared me. This prequel scared me, but in a different way. The original was fueled by paranoia and there was hardly any action (the fighting kind of action, at least). The prequel has much more action than the original. I love both movies, but the original is better than the prequel. This isn't to say to not see the prequel. It is a good movie on its own merits.
The Alien Ship
This was, by far, one of the best parts of the movie. Seeing the alien ship was just a 'wow' moment. Unfortunately, the 'Tetris version' was the one released for theaters. Reading about the 'Pilot version' made me wish I could see that version of the ship. The tetris thing made no fucking sense. I was actually waiting for Daftpunk to start playing. However, the action that happens there is enough to make up for that one moment.
Appearance of The Thing
The Thing is shown to look awesome! People have complained about it appearing too much (but I go with the group that points out The Thing has just woken up) but the look is good. However, going with less CGI would've been better. There are lots of points where it looks like The Thing is from a video game (specifically Dead Space).
Final Thoughts
One of the main questions that people asked (myself included) was if this was a remake or a prequel. Even after the question was answered, people were still asking. There should've been a subtitle for this. Hell, The Thing: THIS IS NOT A REMAKE would've worked. I like this movie. Even though it isn't as good as the original, that's no reason to hate it.

Yes, I am engaged to revrezner (also called Brian and Biggy). This happened New Year's (2012).
I met Brian on an online dating site. I had gone out with 2-3 people from that site and none got a second date. Brian, as can be seen, was different.
If you're wondering, we don't have a date set yet for the wedding. We both want to get our own place before we marry.

Hugo (2011)
Title: Hugo
Director: Martin Scorsese
Starring: Asa Butterfield, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Christopher Lee
Rated: PG
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 3/5
Oscars: 5
Basic Plot: Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.
The Visuals
The visuals in this movie are amazing. I only saw this in 2D (at home) and so can't comment on the 3D. One of the most persistent 'visuals' was the drawing of a spaceship crashing into the eye of the moon (the moon was drawn with a man's face on it). This image keeps on reappearing in different ways and it never seems out of place! Besides that, this is just a visual wonder.
The Story Isn't Engaging
I didn't find this story engaging. It was an interesting mystery but I thought that the resolution didn't make sense. It turns out that a famous film director was forgotten so he went into hiding because of shame. I think I was meant to care for this character's plight, but I didn't. Hugo's own plights, however, were a little more interesting.
Movies Are Awesome
One of the things that made me get annoyed was the message 'movies are great, movies are awesome' being repeated all throughout the movie. I know movies are awesome! I'm watching this, aren't I? I don't think this message will attract new moviegoers, but give old moviegoers a sense of nostalgia. The only good thing about this message is that it connects to the main plot.
Final Thoughts
This movie was meh. I agree that it deserved its awards, but it didn't wow me. I really wish I could like this movie more than I did. I was even feeling VERY sick that night (which usually makes films more enjoyable to me). The visuals and acting are the high points of this film.

Mars Needs Moms (2011)
Title: Mars Needs Moms
Director: Simon Wells
Starring: Seth Green, Joan Cusack, and Dan Fogler
Rated: PG
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 1.5/5
Oscars: Do You Really Think This Turd Of A Movie Would Even Be Nominated (don't you dare use Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon as an example) ?!
Basic Plot: A young boy named Milo gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians come to Earth to take her away.

Graphics Are Awesome
The one good thing about this movie is the graphics. They are breathtaking. I thought the aliens looked cool (though Ki got tons of butt shots). It's just bad that these good graphics are wasted on this film.
Unlikable Characters
One thing about movies is that they should have at least ONE likable character. Is that too hard to do? Apparently it is for this movie. I admit I'm biased AGAINST children in fiction, but Milo took the cake. Not even two seconds of his first screen appearance and I wanted to kill him. Gribble seemed like I would like him. But after a few minutes that hope was quickly dashed. Let me just note that likable isn't the same as good/virtuous.
Martians Are Now Hippies
The footage from Earth that Ki got were of the Flower Power/'60s. This means that we got one character speaking in an annoying manner. Not as a joke, but thinking that's how humans speak. While that annoyance could be overlooked by the end, how this affects the other Martians can't. Ki helps them take tips from the footage she saw. So now Martians are the new Hippies.
Final Thoughts
There are so many unanswered questions. Such as: Why can't the Martians breathe their own air? Why does the Martian Society at the start of the film have such a shitty back story? Why am I asking these questions? I hate this film! There are so many cliches in this movie. I'm not saying movies have to be original, but they at least have to step away from using every cliche in the book. Maybe if some of the characters were likable I could stand this. But we'll never know the answer to that question.

11/22/63 (Stephen King)
Title: 11/22/63
Author: Stephen King
Released: 2011
Rating: 5/5
Basic Plot: Jake Epping goes back in time to try and stop the Kennedy Assassination.
How The Book Deals with Time Travel
I love time travel. It's one reason I love the Terminator franchise. You can handle time travel in many different ways, so I was excited to see how King handled it. Let me just say that it was a great portrayal of time travel. The dangers that are inherent in King's version of time traveling can create chaos (even if the person time traveling has the best of intentions).
The Romance
I'm not going to be talking about Sadie's ex-husband in this part, if you were wondering. I'm talking about how the romance with Sadie affects Jake's decisions he makes. I think if there wasn't a romance with Sadie his choice at the end of the novel wouldn't have been as difficult.
Historical Fiction
This might sound strange: but even though this novel involves time travel, it is a historical novel. The good majority of the novel focuses on the 'Land of Ago' (aka The Past). While this could be boring, what Jake encounters is more than enough to make up for it.
Final Thoughts
I love Stephen King. And was overjoyed that Jake Epping (the main character) was able to use the fact that he's an English Teacher to his advantage while visiting the past. King's son (also a writer) did a good job at telling King to use a different ending. Which I think helps the book. This book does involve sex and violence. But those used to King's writings will already be used to that. Nothing was too extreme for me.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Title: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Director: Rupert Wyatt
Starring: James Franco, Andy Serkis, and Freida Pinto
Rated: PG-13
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4.5/5
Oscars: Nominated for 1
Basic Plot: Eight years of being raised by humans and now left behind in an abusive sanctuary, a hyper-intelligent chimpanzee will lead a revolution of apes towards freedom from man's torturous exploitation.

What Makes One Human
I guess I should've said: What Makes One Deserving of Freedom and Respect? Through Caesar, we get to see a "human's" view of being in a world where the dominant species (humans) have full control over you and don't respect you. I think a good portion of this movie being shown through Caesar's was a big help. Without Caesar you wouldn't have the theme of the movie being as clear.
The CGI
The CGI (especially the apes) were done fantastically. The apes looked very realistic and you would swear they were real. Andy Serkis' acting added life to Caesar. But without the CGI being so good it wouldn't have mattered.
The Cure
James Franco's character starts making The Cure (which is the same title of a YA science fiction novel, which I'm probably the only one who noticed) which makes apes smarter but is deadly to humans. The way The Cure is spread over the world is HIGHLY believable. And scarily plausible.
Final Thoughts
I have not seen any of the previous films in the series (though I have viewed parts of the original). So, with that in mind, this is a very well done film. Tom Felton's death was a little creepy but deserved. It also shows a believable way of how apes could take over the Earth. It was very enjoyable to sit through.

See! It does exist!

The Skin I Live In (2011)
Title: The Skin I Live In
Director: Pedro Almodóvar
Starring: Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, and Jan Cornet
Rated: R
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 6/5
Oscars: N/A
Basic Plot: A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

Themes of Love and Revenge
This movie runs on love and revenge. The actions of the protagonist (who is the villain in this movie), Robert Ledgard, are rooted deeply in his feelings of love and revenge. One example of this (that won't spoil the movie for you) is that the face he gave Vera (his patient) was his wife's face. While this is disturbing, it is a show of love.
The Cinematography
Each shot of this movie is beautiful in its design. Each shot moves you and draws you in. Yes, acting is important, but how a film looks helps improve the experience. The music helps (and one song in particular proves to be of importance) and makes the viewing experience delightful.
WTF is Going On
I feel this should be addressed since this isn't a movie for everyone. This movie is VERY disturbing. Once the twist happens it gets VERY VERY DISTURBING. While I love this movie, I would say that if you are young (under 18) and/or conservative in political views and/or religious views (like Catholics) you probably won't enjoy this film. I don't want to turn people away from this movie, but it does deal with matters that some people might find VERY offensive.
Final Thoughts
This movie rocks! At the end of it I felt like I could hardly breathe since I was so full of emotions. I was both horrified and delighted about it. It is a great combination of horror, thriller, and science fiction. I have not seen such a good movie in a long LONG time. It is a foreign film, and subtitled, but that shouldn't matter to someone looking for a masterpiece.

Micro (Michael Crichton)
Title: Micro
Authors: Michael Crichton & Richard Preston
Released: 2011
Rating: 4.5/5
Basic Plot: Peter goes to Hawaii to get Nanigen to admit that they were responsible for his brother's death. In the process he (and his colleagues) are shrunk and encounter their world in a whole new and dangerous light.
No One is Safe
Through a majority of the book you think you know who can and can't be killed. But then someone dies (this spoiler is too good to ruin) and you realize that anyone can die. I love it in a book when you fear for everyone. While I love the Terminator series, you know John Connor is safe so you don't really fear for him when he gets in trouble (or at least not as much as you could). But when this person dies you get on the edge of your seat and worry for everyone (except Danny who is a whinny bitch).
A Little Like Jurassic Park in Theme
Both Jurassic Park and Micro have the same basic theme. It's the fact that nature can't be controlled because we can't even begin to understand it. In Jurassic Park that was shown when Jurassic Park shut down and the dinosaurs were released to do what they would. In Micro this is shown in a more "classic" way by shrinking the main characters and showing our world in a whole new light. It makes things that weren't dangerous to people normally, be more than a little dangerous when those people were shrunk.
Microbots and Shrunken People
Reading the start of this book I was reminded of Prey (another of Crichton's books that focuses on nanobots). Spoiler (that you'll easily figure out) the man was attacked by microbots. Luckily the book doesn't focus on the microbots a lot and instead focuses on the natural world as viewed by shrunken humans.
Final Thoughts
This was a breath of fresh air after Pirate Latitudes (Micheal Crichton's other book that was published post-posthumously). I was excited to see a complete story in this one, plus the end leaves it open to sequels (though Crichton usually didn't do sequels). There are some very adult moments in this book that are sexual (like the giant booby moment) or very violent (especially the final death scene).

X-Men: First Class (2011)
Title: X-Men: First Class
Director: Matthew Vaughn
Series: X-Men
Based on the Comics Started By: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence
Rated: PG-13
Released: 2011
Personal Rating: 4.5/5
Oscars: N/A
Basic Plot: Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr come together to fight a common enemy.
Overlooked Characters Shown
I think it was a good move to show mutants other than the usual ones we're used to seeing. The better thing, though, is making them just as interesting. So if you're worrying that this movie won't be good because there's no Wolverine or Cyclops: rest assured that this is not the case. I must say I wasn't familiar with Emma Frost before but grew to really love the character (in all her evilness) like I had with Wolverine.
Cameo!
I sort of lied when I said Wolverine isn't in this movie. He is in it for a small cameo. It's the part where Xavier and Erik are recruiting mutants for their X-Men team. As you can imagine, Logan/Wolverine doesn't accept the offer. Though his time on screen is so short, it was a memorable little scene.
The Final Battle
The battle at the end of the movie was just awesome. Not only was it good action, but the personal demons each character was fighting (throughout the movie) are addressed. Kevin Bacon is killed BUT that's not where the action ends. That being said: that's when Erik turns into Magneto. After Bacon is killed, the mutants have to decide how to deal with the humans who are trying to kill them. That's when Magneto and Professor X form their two different groups.
Final Thoughts
When I first heard about this movie I was a little worried. As X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine weren't received well by most people. But when I heard all the positive reviews I knew I had to check this movie out. I was not disappointed with this movie at all. It shows that the X-Men movie franchise has not yet died!
