SCOUTS-MANY-MARSHES

“This horse has been restless for days.” Swims-In-Dangerous-Waters said as he helped me restrain the horse.

The Dark Brotherhood Initiate would have been a Shadowscale if that sacred order had existed in this day and age. At least he had been able to come to Skyrim to bask in Sithis’ shadow. Jash, my love, had helped strengthen the Dark Brotherhood and so the order of assassins had most likely begun to spread its influence over Tamriel once again.

That hadn’t been one of the things I had been interested in earlier this morning. Instead a good majority of my questions had involved my husband and those he had found to warm his bed. When I had first come back to life I hadn’t imagined a world where Jash had died.

My faith in him was true as he was alive. He wasn’t in Skyrim but he was on Tamriel.

The way he had survived had left me confused. He was no longer a mortal but the Daedric Prince of Balance and Extremes. I chuckled as I realized that he could never become a vampire because of his utter devotion to Hircine. So of course when Serena attempted to bite him so that he would temporarily become a vampire, something deep in my love reacted.

“Have you heard any word from Argonia?” I asked the Initiate.

“I had some contact a few years ago.” Swims replied.

“Do you know if they still say Jash’s name?”

“They do not. No new hatchling is allowed to be called either Jash or Kysnier.”

“Thank you.”

I mounted the horse and had to allow my mount a few moments before they calmed down. They didn’t seem to like me and I could understand why. I was a new rider and they could possibly smell the wrongness of me walking Mundus once more.

“At least the morning is warmer than most.” The Initiate said with a wicked grin.

“It is ours to still feel a chill in the air.” I replied and pulled my cloak closer to me. “But your gift should protect me if the weather turns.”

As I was about to start my short journey to Bloodchill Manor I realized there was one man I hadn’t inquired about as much as I should have. A man who was now my husband. Of this I knew since Jash would never let part of his heart escape his grasp after opening it for so many already.

“Do you know anything about Alex Casey, Swims-In-Dangerous-Waters?” I asked.

“It is his to hide himself from the world.” Swims replied. “Only Jash and Hircine would be able to tell you more.”

“What should I prepare myself for?”

“He will know of you through Jash so you will not be a stranger to him.”

“Is he a jealous man?”

“It is not ours to be close enough to him to know that. But I assume his love for Jash will make him open up to you relatively quickly.”

“May the Hist guide you and protect you.”

With that I began my short ride to Bloodchill Manor. Jash hadn’t fallen so deeply in love with Alex because he was an unworthy man. He wouldn’t have gone to the lengths he had to bring a dryskin he loathed into his bed.

The Initiates had known some of the tale but I knew there was much that hadn’t been told to me. There had been some debate where Alex had come from with answers ranging from outside of Tamriel to some distant reality.

The least surprising thing I had found out on my return to Mundus was the fact that Jash had married Hircine. I chuckled at the memory of being surprised upon first learning that truth. Why had I been so startled by the obvious?
