ALEX CASEY

I finished making a small breakfast of bread and tomato soup in Bloodchill Manor’s kitchen. I looked over my shoulder briefly to see Scouts-Many-Marshes, the man that should be dead, sitting at the large table.

Jash had never mentioned to me or Hircine the possibility of Scouts coming back. He had fought teeth and nail to have me back in his bed. So if he had known of the slightest possibility of his husband coming back to life, he would never have pursued me to begin with.

As I put the meal onto two plates, I realized why Jash had fallen so hard for Scouts at the first sight of him. He exuded this kindness that would warm even the Devil’s heart. And yet he still seemed more than capable in a fight.

Scouts had all the qualities I admired in Saga while also making me imagine scenarios I never had with her.

Would Scouts make as good of a lover as Jash? Could he pleasure my body like Jash? Would he be there for me like Jash was even while fighting the Thalmor all across Tamriel for the past three years?

The idea made me nervous. It had taken a year for me to fully accept Hircine as my husband when I came to Skyrim. Would it take longer for me to accept Scouts? Or if I kissed him now would I be his?

When I put Scouts’ plate in front of him he smiled at me. I put my own plate down and took my place at the table.

“This is new.” Scouts said and pointed to the cup of coffee. “Saxhleel Vigor Coffee.”

“When Jash went to get the other…me he took a liking to coffee.” I replied. “So he found a way to grow some of his own. It is an empire in its own right.”

“It’s so strange and yet makes perfect sense for my love to do. It is his to take on impossible tasks.”

Scouts’ expression became troubled and he started touching where a horn used to be. After my initial shock of seeing him alive, my eyes had gone to where his horn had been. If Jash had lost one of his horns, he would have been angered because of his vanity.

But Scouts didn’t seem to have similar feelings about his horns.

“I fear the Hist have punished me.” Scouts said. “It could be theirs to take away one of my horns in anger.”

I dipped my bread in the soup and slowly ate it as I tried to figure out what to say. It didn’t feel right to make him panic and so I had to do my best to say something positive.

“You were buried at Lakeview Manor.” I said once I had swallowed. “Which means your soul went to the Hist as was your request. So even if you changed your mind, you couldn’t be here now if the Hist didn’t want it to happen.”

“They took my horn as payment?” Scouts asked, his crest now seemed to blow in the wind.

When I had told him that the Hist had allowed him to return, that had taken up all of my optimism for the week. So I just shrugged.

I had expected Scouts to be jealous about how Jash and myself had ended up together. At first I spared details so that he wouldn’t get upset but quickly told him everything when there hadn’t been a hint of jealousy in his eyes. How could he not be angry at how his corpse hadn’t even been buried when Jash first made love to the other Alex?

“Jash will be excited that you’re back, Scouts.” I said as the silence began to choke me. “I’m sorry that he wasn’t here to greet you himself.”

“It is not the first time my love has been gone.” Scouts said with a laugh that began to warm my heart. “It is his to learn his lesson and come to me when he can. If he is not here then he has reason to be away. If he can’t return quickly then he is needed elsewhere.”

****! How could I have forgotten about the fact that Jash and Scouts had met during the height of Skyrim’s Civil War! And after that Jash had taken awhile to adjust to being able to see Scouts more. It had taken Scouts nearly killing himself for my husband to change his ways.

“I am glad that Jash took the Reforged to war against the Thalmor.” Scouts said with a grin. “They will only be sated with the blood of elves.”

The Reforged had been formed from the ashes of the Blades. The remaining members had tried to command Jash and make him kill a trusted friend. It was in his need to sow bloody vengeance against the Thalmor that he had killed the remaining Blades and formed an order that was loyal to both himself and his vision.

“My husband has his wants and desires.” Scouts said. “Are you able to sate him?”

“Not as often as either of us would like.” I replied and tried to avoid the pitying look in his eyes. “So he has taken Sissel as his consort for the war.”

“And you?”

“I only like to make love to Hircine if Jash is with me.”

“You’re the husband of the Dragonborn, I’m sure many have thrown themselves at you.”

“None that have interested me.”

I tried to ignore the intensse feelings coursing through my body at the thought of Scouts merely kising me.

It wasn’t just that no one had interested me, it felt like a betrayal even though Jash had more than encouraged me to find another lover. With Scouts it wouldn’t be a betrayal, but shouldn’t Jash be the first one to make Scouts’ body contort in pleasure?

“Is my husband busy or is it a hard feat to accomplish?” Scouts asked.

“He’s either busy with the war or Sissel.” I replied.

“Jash chose a good woman. He has always been drawn to people that make sure he won’t become the monster he fears he is.”
