Jax's Crime

The latest episode of The Amazing Digital Circus was intense. It was the darkest the show has ever gotten. Our colorful cast of characters have always been trapped but never before has Caine shown his true colors blatantly.

One of the most jaw dropping moments was when we finally got a glimpse into the real world. It wasn't much but it was a lot at the same time. This came at the point when Jax was assaulted with a memory of his life in the real world.

So here are my three main theories on why Jax was so frightened by the memory shown.
Hit and Run

The car in Jax's memory wasn't going slow. In fact it was speeding away in the middle of the night. Maybe the explanation is simply that he had been late to a social event so he went fast in order to arrive to his destination in this century.

But that explanation doesn't satisfy me. It also doesn't explain why Jax was so frightened by the memory.

Know what does explain his fear? He was fleeing an accident.

There's not enough evidence that Jax's hit and run killed someone. What is clear is that Jax had hit someone with his car.
Murdered His Family

Jax's need to keep people at a distance could be born from an abusive home life. He might worry that if he's close with people that they will only betray him in the end. It would also explain why he doesn't like talking about who he used to be.

His intense reaction of having the opportunity to return home makes sense if there's no loving family waiting for him. It could be that he views the prison of the circus as a better alternative.

If someone is abused it's reasonable that they might lash out. When you're in pain you thrash around to try and find relief, after all. Jax might have lashed out to the point that he murdered his family and then fled the scene of the crime.

So if Jax were to return to the real world then he would be in jail. It could also be that he is ashamed of what he's done and being in the circus provides a way to avoid the truth of his actions.

Another possibility is that Caine merely made Jax think he murdered his family. The AI could have then made the man feel utterly afraid of being caught. When someone can control your mind nothing is off the table.
Running Away From an Abusive Family

This theory is an offshoot of the previous one with a key difference: Jax didn't murder his family and ran away from the abuse.

In this theory Jax panicked from remembering his abusive family. His usual carefree attitude is a cover so that others don't see the deep scars left by his trauma. So he wasn't afraid of the authorities apprehending him, he was afraid of just seeing them.

My dad left deep emotional wounds that will never heal. So I can confirm that the mere thought of him can terrify me. It is very possible that Jax feels the same way about his family.

Seeing his family isn't the only reason that Jax became terrified. Another reason is that he fears he's too weak to stay away from them. He might fear once he's out in the real world again that he will end up crawling back to them.
Those are my opinions on the terrible crimes Jax could have committed. Comment below with your opinions about what you think Jax did.
