JASH

“We can rest for thirty minutes but then we’ll have to return to the case.” Saga said as we entered the Elderwood Palace Lodge.

If not for the pleading way her eyes looked at me, I would have remained silent. If she wanted to get me involved, I had no choice but to obey.

“Your eyes looked at a fallen FBI agent.” I pointed out. “How clear will your mind be on the case if you don’t take at least an hour to clear your head?”

That wasn’t the answer she had wanted. She made slight motions indicating she had almost shook her head in frustration. Hircine had blessed us with few people to observe this interaction. We didn’t need to trouble the commonfolk unless the need arose.

“We could stay in the lodge for hours and it wouldn’t help.” Saga said. “Why am I arguing this? I’m in charge of this case.”

“It is yours to care for Alex Casey.” I said. “It is also yours to seek his approval even now.”

Saga nodded curtly and then looked to Alex.

“Saga, I know you can examine Nightingale’s corpse now and have a clear head.” Alex said. “But I need a moment to think on the case.”

“Really, Alex?” Saga asked in a way only a mother can. “You really need time to rest?”

“Nightingale isn’t going to walk down to the Oh Deer Diner anytime soon.”

Saga checked us in and I took note of how her posture was less tense by the time she walked back to us.

“I do need a good hour to steady my nerves.” Saga admitted and handed us our keys.

“I could tell.” Alex replied.

After we made the short walk to our room, Alex shut the door behind us. It was clear that my love needed a moment to catch his breath for a reason other than needing to come to terms with the death of a fellow agent.

“We need to tell Saga now.” Alex said as I sat in the chair.

“But the FB-“ I began.

“**** the FBC. What are they going to do now? They won’t be able to take you away. They won’t be able to do a **** thing about me either. So why the **** are we waiting?”

My love did have a good point. It was born out of emotion instead of cold logic, but it was sound. Like him I loathed having to lie to Saga. Unlike him, though, I wasn’t in as close of contact with her and so my mind was allowed to think clearer.

“It is ours to loathe lying to an egg-friend.” I said softly but firmly. “But it is also ours to believe that the original plan is best. You are right that the FBC can’t do anything to us now as we will be returning to Skyrim soon. Saga, though, will remain in this reality. I am sure after the Dark Presence is driven back once more that Saga will remain here. They might decide to take their ire out on her.”

“What could they do to her?” Alex asked. “They would have no reason to go after her.”

“You wound one’s pride and they tend to lash out. I can’t say what exactly they would do to her, but they might decide to pick apart Logan.”

“No.”

“Logan has the same abilities as Saga. Children are also easier to mold into whatever powerful adults want. They’re also easier to get to.”

“****.”

Alex managed to regain control of himself enough that his fist didn’t go through the wall. Though I am sure those close would hear the sound.
