Many people have been up in arms about the cliffhanger at the end of The Walking Dead episode "Last Day on Earth", the Season 6 finale. Everyone had been waiting, and taking bets on, to see who would die by Negan's hand.
Negan's arrival was predicated all the way back in Season 5 and as the final episodes ticked down to his arrival, people were rightly excited.
Robert Kirkman and Scott Gimple gave the explanation that the reason the cliffhanger was there was because whoever Negan killed is the start of a new story. The current story had just finished and so they found it a good ending point.
Also Kirkman loves cliffhangers, but that's besides the point.
I agree with them on their reasoning and disagree with the people crying outrage. I admit the cliffhanger had to grow on me before I accepted it. It was such a good cliffhanger and, therefore, extremely painful.
The story that was told in the finale was one of the breaking of Rick Grimes. Rick goes from being sure of himself to a shell of a man in the course of this episode. I will follow Rick's journey of revelation from Alexandria all the way to Negan.

Max's Journal (Table of Contents)
I am Max and I am a spy in Seitou's clan. I am of the Shadow Flight and serve the Shadowbinder.
I have done a horrible thing in my past all because I thought I was doing good. I had left my former clan for a number of years and, upon going back, I was met with a vision of its destruction. I was also met with Chloe being murdered and so I went back in time, not that I consciously did it that first time. I then did everything in my power to make sure that she continued to live. During this time I realized my romantic feelings for her as well as helped her solve the mystery of her former lover's murder. By the time my vision came to pass, I realized that the destruction of my clan could be stopped by going back in time and allowing Chloe to die. Essentially killing her. I couldn't kill the woman I loved and so I allowed my entire clan to die for my love. It took awhile for what I did to finally sink in, and when it did I left Chloe without even saying good-bye. I started my life anew in Seitou's clan and found myself a perfect fit as a spy. When I heard Chloe had died I went to mourn her. I eventually found out that she had been killed and brought back to life for some sick experiment. I saved her, again, and now we are both happy in Seitou's clan.

Travels of Artictress: Tobias of the Johto Region Entry #1 (HeartGold)
Entry #1 I Guess I'm Trusted
Hello, my name is Tobias and I live in the Johto Region of Pokemon World. I'm a boy who has never left his town of New Bark Town. So when I first went out of town it was...wow, just wow.
I know there is a whole world around me but because I can't leave town without a Pokemon, and I've been too embarrassed to ask anyone with a Pokemon to let me out, I haven't traveled far at all. Just stood on the farthest point I could and looked out.
So how did my first day out go?
