Machinima and Mortal Kombat
All I have to say is: Holy shit is Mortal Kombat: Legacy awesome! A lot of action and action and more action. But this isn't a review of the series (might do that after it's all completed) it's a look at Machinima.
Now Mortal Kombat: Legacy was released on Machinima.com today. It is, of course, a Mortal Kombat series on the web. Mortal Kombat is a video game series (for those of you that have been living under a rock the last couple of years) and it would be cheap and easy to do a series made up of graphics from the Mortal Kombat games (which is what Machinima is) so why did they choose to do live action instead?
I don't know why the decision was made but I do know it wouldn't have looked as good if it had been. Machinima is usually done as comedy because that's how it works best. Video game graphics are good in video games, but when you do film with them they look funny.
While Mortal Kombat: Legacy isn't a serious web serie,s the action looks better as live action (at least in the first episode). People look like people and tiny things in a person's movement look more believable.
If you haven't watched it yet go HERE to watch Episode 1 of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

Megamind (2010)
This is one movie where the trailer (at least the one or two I saw) lied about the movie.
Title: Megamind
Director: Tom McGrath
Starring: Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, and Brad Pitt
Rated: PG
Released: 2010
Rating: 3.5/5
Basic Plot: Megamind defeats Metro Man and has to decide what to do now.
Watchmen
I saw the reference to the comic book Watchmen (by Alan Moore) and thought I had imagined it. Hal is wearing a sad face which is like the smiley face The Comedian wore in the comic. I double checked this fact on imdb to make certain.
Original Trailer
The original trailer made it seem like Megamind was going to be about Megamind and Metro Man duking it out. In fact, the original trailer I saw didn't even hint that the real villain was going to be Hal.
If the Villain Won
This movie deals with what would happen if the villain won. Megamind thinks he has defeated Metro Man and suddenly he starts falling apart. The problem is that Megamind's whole life has been about defeating Metro Man and now he has no one to fight. This is what causes the whole problem of Hal becoming evil and ending up with super powers.
The Misunderstanding
Megamind and Roxanne start a relationship, have a misunderstanding, break up, and get back together. There was a little tension but I was pretty sure that they would end up together. And, lo and behold, they did. It's an overused cliche but it worked a little in this movie.
Final Thoughts
This was a very fun comedy to sit through. It was light hearted, got dark, and had some funny bits. With the PG rating it's aimed at kids but it was enjoyable for me (and I'm an adult). I would recommend seeing this movie with friends on a night that not much is going on.

Source Code (2011)
What I like in a movie is one that will make me think or at least make me view things in a different light. While this movie isn't one that'll you'll have to dig too deeply to find the message, it is one that might go over some people's heads.
Title: Source Code
Director: Duncan Jones
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, and Vera Farmiga
Rated: PG-13
Released: 2011
Rating: 5/5
Basic Plot: Colter Stevens wakes up in the body of another person and gets a mission to discover the identity of the person who bombed a train.
The Source Code
The Source Code (where the title of the movie comes from) is actually pretty simple to explain. You have to be near dead and then your mind is placed in another body in a parallel universe. During the majority of the movie it is thought that you can't affect anything outside the Source Code (they think it's a program and don't know that it creates parallel universes). This is explained in sci-fi lingo that was music to my ears.
Romance
The romance was nice but not needed. Plus, it's sort of creepy that Colter is taking up a romance with another man's woman. Also, what happens if Colter realizes he doesn't love her and breaks up. Of course if Colter didn't have the romance to push himself his mind would've been wiped at the end.
Programmers are Evil People
The programmers in this movie don't care about Colter and so they come off as evil. Especially the head guy who doesn't want to allow Colter's request of dying. Colter was nearly dead and the reveal of his actual body might make some people feel nauseous.
Final Thoughts
This movie is awesome! I left the theater feeling fulfilled and happy. However, this movie is not for everyone. This is because the concept of the Source Code might go over some people's head, confuse them, and not make them have a good time. But I would stress for you to see this movie if you think that you can cope with it.
