JASH
I screamed but no sound came out of my mouth. There was too much blood, guts, and skin to the point it was like a tunnel with a current of blood moving me. No matter how hard I pushed my lungs, there still wasn’t enough force to get the tiniest of sounds out.
The only place I wanted to be right now was in a tight embrace with Alex and his head would rest on my chest so he could hear my heartbeat. But he wasn’t here with me and I just had to trust that I would be pulled to Alex.
I silently thanked the Hist for making me as they had. My entire body was made to move swiftly through the water. While there wasn’t any water, my body treated blood as air. If I had been in danger of drowning, I would have been more panicked.
As a rough and solid material seemed to crash into me, I grunted and allowed the pain to radiate through my body. This too would end. I breathed and noticed there was only blood coating my scales which meant I had arrived.
Where was Alex?
At first I thought I was standing up. That couldn’t be, though, as there was a large solid mass to the side of me. My body wasn’t leaning so it couldn’t be a wall. As I listened to what my various senses had to tell me, I became certain I was lying on my side. The moment I realized that my surroundings came into focus.
I was on concrete, or something similar, which meant I was on Earth. Not even a foot away from me was a strange vehicle that had no comparison on Nirn. Alex had talked about different vehicles in the past and so I knew this one was meant for a family. There was enough space for both parents and at least five children. Though it was entirely possible they only had one child.
What was this covered place with a vehicle fit for a family? A garage!
This couldn’t be where Alex lived. He and his ex-wife never had any children. Then there was the fact that this garage looked small and personal, nothing like how vehicle storage places for apartments had been described to me.
I put an illusion around myself so that whoever was walking towards me would just see a naked dryskin man covered with blood. Which would inspire less terror than a Saxhleel covered in blood. Hopefully. The School of Illusion was not my strength. I should have practiced Illusion spells more than I had. As the Arch-Mage I should have realized the unexpected could happen and prepared for such instances. But I had been more concerned about getting to Alex than what happened afterwards.
My head turned to see a small dryskin Redguard child walk in. She was probably around ten years old. Wait, not a Redguard as the race didn’t exist on Earth. She was black and was that a hint of Finnish features on her?
“Mom!” The girl yelled.
My blood soaked crest struggled to stand up until I took in the exact tone the girl had screamed in. It hadn’t been a yell of terror but instead had been laced with curiosity instead. She was excited about seeing me. Children had an innocence about them that allowed them to experience a sense of wonder that was now a foreign concept to me.
The girl’s mother yelled back in a less excited manner as if she was tired. There was also a feeling of how the faint mother’s voice bent the air that was familiar to these ears. But I couldn’t tell where I knew her from.
“It’s Lizzie the Lizard!” The young girl yelled in reply.
The adult footsteps quickened in their pace. I looked at the hat on the young girl’s head. It was a strange thing made out of a type of paper not fit for writing on. There were some colors on it that made these eyes feel joy. This girl was celebrating her birthday and the mother must be exhausted for that reason.
Once the adult footsteps were close enough I turned my attention from the girl to Saga Anderson. I examined the girl more intensely with my eyes. There were tiny little similarities in their features and so the girl must be Logan. The daughter Saga ha-would risk everything for. It was that girl who had forced Saga into leaving the comforts of ignorance behind.
“Logan!” Saga screamed and pulled Logan tight to her chest. “Stay away from him!”
Him. Not it. If Logan saw through my illusion and Saga didn’t, it must mean the agent was still in a fight against the truth of her heritage. Her mother had done everything she could to try and make Saga have a normal life after all.
“Help.” I said weakly and could barely breathe due to exhaustion. “My name is Jash.”
I wanted to ask about Alex but I had wasted as much air as I could risk for the moment.
Saga glared at me, not a hint of the fear that must now be coursing through her veins, and tightened her grip on Logan when the girl tried to run to my side.
