The Witch Who Cried Wolf (Mini-Review)

The Witch Who Cried Wolf is the first book in Sarah Makela's Cry Wolf series. This book tells the story of Mia who inadvertently gets involved with a werewolf pack. Ethan is her childhood crush who she accidentally gets involved with the supernatural.

In books characters can't know all the information at once as that would make for a very bad story. Plot points and twists need to be well paced to keep the readers entertained. This book has characters keep secrets from each other for no reason other than to try and build up tension. Mia is much too hesitant about revealing the existence about werewolves to Ethan and the love potion infused healing salve she accidentally gave him. The werewolf thing is terrible as he had been attacked by one and she was hesitant about telling him that he might now be the same kind of creature.

Greg was also handled horribly. Mia started dating him because she was lonely and didn't want to break up with him before the end of Christmas. When he starts to show his abusive side she starts making excuses for him instead of realizing what kind of person he actually is. At one point she thinks it's her bad karma making him act like a jerk, aka blaming herself for his actions, instead of realizing how abusers act. They will make you feel loved until they think they can get away with treating you badly.

The sad thing about all of the book's fault is that it still has some good moments. The relationship between Mia and Ethan is handled wonderfully at times. Plus the world building is done decently. Yet because of the poorly written parts, I can't recommend this book like I want to.

I would recommend The Witch Who Cried Wolf to readers who like paranormal romance.
