Shipping Confessions: Michonne/Rick (The Walking Dead)

I am not a huge zombie fan. I'm not one of those people that needs to be up to date about everything zombie related. There are only a few zombie related things that I feel any great longing for. First is World War Z by Max Brooks which is written like War of the Worlds but with zombies, Z Nation which I originally started watching purely for seeing DJ Qualls each week, and The Walking Dead tv show.

The Walking Dead follows Rick Grimes and his adventures to keep himself and his band alive in the post-apocalyptic world filled with walkers (the show's word for zombies). The show also spends time on other characters and sub-plots.

Today I'll be looking at the non-canon pairing of Rick Grimes and Michonne.
Michonne entered the tv series as a mysterious cloaked figure with two pet walkers. She was a friend to Andrea and only interacted with Rick's group when she had to. And when she first met Rick's group she wasn't very open at all.

Over the course of time, though, she ended up opening up. She proved to be a good member of the group with her use of the katana. When you are her friend she will be more open with you. Such as when she and Carl raided the little cafe.

While Michonne can survive on her own, being with Rick's group helped her.

The two pet walkers were originally people she had known in a previous group.
Rick Grimes was a sheriff's deputy before the walker uprising. During work one day he ended up in a coma and woke up in a world where society had fallen apart because of the walkers. He quickly found a group to be in and was soon in charge of it.

Over the course of the many seasons of the show, he has learned to harden himself because of the world he now lives in. While his friend Shane was a villain in an earlier season, Rick has gone closer to Shane's worldview than I think he likes to admit.

After everything that has happened to him, Rick is still a family man and cares for both of his children. He is also trying desperately to not be changed too much by the world he now lives in.
Rick and Michonne work well together once they become friends. As I said, Rick cares about baby Judith and Carl. Michonne has a hidden motherly side that makes her a good caretaker for Carl. At one point, I believe, she even reassures Carl about his father.

After the attack on the prison when they're all separated, Michonne finally decides to find Rick after she has a mental breakdown. She knows that she can survive on her own, but she also knows that she's stronger and better with Rick.

There are many points in the series where they help each other. I feel like that Michonne being with Rick means that Carl would be raised better and Carl's well being is paramount to Rick.

What will I talk about in the next Shipping Confessions? Next Shipping Confessions I will look at my first ever crossover ship on this series. It's between a boy trapped in the body of a hawk from the Animorphs book series and a man who turns into a being of pure rage from the Avengers.
